| This may be a dumb question, but can some-one explain what these dampners actually achieve, how they work etc. I believe they are quite good but I'm not sure how exactly they work. Is there still a solid connection through-out the steering components, does it simply absorbe 'shocks/bumps/rebound' etc at the bars ???????????? Also, what are the good ones to look at for a YFZ450. Cheers. |

They basically absorb bumps and help to stop you hands getting ripped off the bars. But they also make the steering more stable over rough graound and make riding that bit easier... A good dampener for yu depends on how much you want to spend..... The price can range from $60 to $800 so its really a personal choice. _________________ Mic

its basically like bolting a shock absorber to your steering stem
i run a pep damper now but have run the denton rebuildable ones as well and found they leak a lot more
i have had no probs with my pep one and have had it about six months |

| Thanks guys, I'll start looking at a few brands etc. I just spent 3 days riding all sortd of terrain on 6500 acre property and I can now appreciate what these do, my hands felt like they were in an electric mixer after day 2. But good fun !!!!!! |

| I put a precision on my 700 Raptor 4 weeks ago and can't believe the difference. I have increased my speed around the track by 10% and survived to tell the tale. Previously I had to strap my wrists but that has all gone in the bin now. If I had known the difference the stablizer would make, it would have been the first thing I put on my quad! |

A steering damper was the first ting I put on my YFZ. Look out for the new Elka model that has just been released at aroud the same price as a prescision, also the new MSC Damper looks like a good bit of gear too. I'm hopefully testing my new Ohlins low mount one this weekend as well so there are plenty of options for that style of damper available now. _________________

Have ordered a Precision Damper for my 700r through Suspensions R Us, Have been finding riding it after breaking my arm to be a pain in the a**e
Looking forward to using it.
Ordered 15 T front sproket too from local dealer, pretty good feedback on this mod for the Raptor 700 from overseas forums. _________________ Yamaha 700R -White/Silver-

runt,
the a-arms were great, fitted the right top in 15 mins, no problems at all, just needed to swap one of the ball joints over.
And now have some spares too, though hoping not to have another prang/broken arm or both, at least for while. _________________ Yamaha 700R -White/Silver-

ive got the msc dampner and it sure is a good piece of gear just remember to wind it back of the hardest setting before you go racing motox as this can cause you to tire quickely .
the msc is a very solid unit the bloke who picked it up for me said he thought it to be one of the best made things he has seen for an atv yet and the best thing is msc back ther product up with free servicing , the msc is not one of the plunger type ones its a double mount twin arm set up with ,, let me count , three modes all with 8 settings of dampning so it should be tunable enough for you ,, hope this helps |

hasn't worked for me either Todd.
I've finally gotten hold of an Ohlins rotay damper with a proper low mount kit, just waiting for an Elka and an MSC one to turn up and maybe it'll be time for another comparison. _________________
