| am looking into this for my little boy as well.... from what i have ascertained so far the polaris at the moment is by far the better buy... think i was quoted 3k for a polaris.... the can am was something like 4.5k... The canam seems a little more race ready but i dont think he'll want to do anything like that so yeah i dont think there is much that can beat the polaris for that money |

If your looking for a bike thats race ready the pro-shark is a great option and when you way up what it comes with is reasonably cheap too
Im very happy with my kids pro-shark
But also have trx 90 polaris scrambler & eton all good kids bikes
The eton is for sale its a great starting quad _________________ THANKS TO ALL WHO HAVE ASSISTED MY FAMILY IN THERE RACING OVER LAST FEW YEARS |

Apparently DS90x is suposed to be having a few problems with over heating and oil leaks etc. The engines are Tiwanese made. Although I own a Can am Renegade I would by the Polaris Outlaw 90 for my daughter untill Can am start using thier own engines.

The Polaris Outlaw 90 and the Can-Am DS90's all use the same engine.
There are minor bore and stroke differences internally but every single part of both engines is interchangeable.
The after market CDI and exhausts are the same parts too.
The Polaris runs a 51.8mm stroke and 47mm bore where as the Can-Am runs a 49.5mm stroke and a 48mm bore.
The result is the same displacement but the Can-Am uses the more common Honda 49.5mm stroke and there are more o/s piston options around the 12.5mm compression height piston.
I have heard rumours of overheating in these little 90 4 strokes but would not think that is a big issue.
We held one of these engines absolutely flat out across the Simpson desert, in sand, with adults on it, for hours and hours on end, in 40+ degree heat.
It eventually the little Outlaw 'did' get too hot and started to run crappy... but we were all more worried about the big bikes frying their guts out.
So I would not worry about overheating.
Fit a cheap oil cooler and I reckon you could do laps of Ayres rock all day in the middle of summer.
I don't think there is a chance in hell that any of the little two strokes would have had a chance of surviving such a test.
Engines being the same...
The chassis and suspension are the real differences between the bikes.
The polaris has good travel for a single A-arm suspension set up.
Can-Am have a standard DS90 which is much cheaper and the same basic single A-arm design as the Outlaw.
The DS90 'X' is the race version which has far superior dual A-arm suspension and disc brakes etc.
Besides being the more equiped racer with alloy wheels etc, at 43 inches the DS90X is a much wider and more stable bike.
The wheel stud pattern is also the same as the larger DS450's, Honda and Suzuki 450's too.
So it's really either a choice of the stockies, or pay a bit more for the flash one with more race stuff. _________________ Can-Am X Team
