i have a trx 400ex 2003 i went for a ride the other day, bike ran fine, i came home, gave it its normal clean, wash etc... then went to start it up to get all water off it and it seems to be sputtering when i rev it up, and also when i hold the revs on steady i can hear a distinct click noise sounds maybe from the carby or something, the engine also just cuts out by itself, seems weird how my bike ran fine when riding and has only done this after i washed it. any help?? ta.

could be but that would be pretty easy to spot cos the choke lever would have to be sitting out but you are right that it would have a similar effect

it sounds to me like your spark is breaking down, like your spark plug cap aint on right and is having to arc across the gap, or ignition lead is earthing out . that could explain the tick. if it is electrical and casued by water then it should clear up on its own once the moisture evaporates. by all means clean your carbie and when you do check your ignition system.

Def sounds like a water in the carby problem. Do you wash it with the air box lid off? worse case scenario just put a plastic bag over the air filter hold it in place with a rubber band. Hope this helps Very Happy

sounds a bit like wate r causing an ignition missfire. The click noise could be a tracking spark it usualy makes a distinct tick noise.

Try taking your lead off the plug and dry the lead and plug with compressed air.If you start it up in the dark you may even be able to see the spark tracking.
