Hey guys,

I bought some Castrol A747 - 2 stroke oil today, was $40 for 1 litre.

How many of you guys use this oil?

what do you think of it?

Is it the best stuff you can get, or only crap stuff?

Cheers

The A747 is for real high reving 2 strokes.
You wnt to be pulling 12000 + RPM, otherwise it will foul the plugs.
Excellent oil though. I ran it for about 3 years in some 26cc engines. They were pulling between 19 - 20 000 RPM. Always perfect inside.

haha heres that one eye for ya!

nah i run silkolene in mine, but i reckon darren and ash are on to something with the outboard oil.

banshee engines are an old design, no powervalves to gum up, no special rings/bearings etc. iron bore... run whatever 2 stroke oil you want. if its fouling plugs, ride harder or lean off the oil:fuel ratio!

how much is the Silkolene stuff you run stroker?

the guy who built the engine told me to run 50:1 fuel ratio, so i guess i better stick with that... they said IT MUST BE 50:1!!!!

its about $20 a litre, so half yours. but your 50:1 and im 25:1, so your using half anyway. equilibrium

i think 50:1 in a banshee is crazy, but thats another story altogether....

read them threads mate

i reckon you should find a ratio that uses as much oil as possible without fouling plugs or dripping out your exhaust

Something a lot of people don't realize with a 2 stroke is that oil = horsepower.
Run as high a mix as you can with out fowling your plug. The motor will run cooler, your lubrication will be higher = less friction = more HP & you will have better compression = more torque. Not to mention that your engine will thank you for it.

I'm not sure I'd run outboard at 40:1. Some oils are designed to run at those ratios and some are not. I used to run outboard in the days that I ran 20:1 but when I run 40:1 (on sand) or 50:1 (on dirt) I use oils designed for those ratios (normally Motul 800). Outborard oils may have gotten better over the past few years so I may be talking s@#t but I'd check up first if I were you.
