Hey lads,

ok you might have seen my other thread about which bike to buy for aorund $4500.

Well today I bought a Bike, Ill tell you all I know and you tell me if you think it was a good buy.

2002 Yamaha Banshee
- Custom Airbox
- K&N Filter
- 32mm Carbies ( Im really not sure of the benefit of these or the size of the originals, so any advice would be great)
- Lightened Accelerator Springs
- 310mm Jets ( I think he said stock is 190mm or something? would that be correct? whats the benefit or con of doing this mod?)
- Boysen Reeds (not sure what this is either, lol)
- Ported & Polished Engine
- 10 Thou Bore & 10 Thou Head (Explanation would be good for this too)
- Wiseco Ultra Light Pistons
- Strengthened Crank
- Barret Heavy Duty Clutch
- Full FMF Race System (Fatties and Pipes)
- New Kendra Rear Tyres
- Bark Busters
- Nerf Bars

The Bike is extremely neat and The engine has just been rebuilt and the timing advanced, the previous owner claimed that the bike owed him approx $12,000 and the power figure is around 70hp.

Ill put a pic up as soon as i get one, i didnt take one today.

Anyway, what did i pay for it? $5000.

Explanations of the above parts that i dont know much about would be mch appreciated, eg, Bigger Carbies, Bigger Jets, 10 Thou Bore, 10 Thou Head and Reeds.

Cheers
Beef

310 jets sound about right, you need them for the pipes

pipes and bigger carbies= more air going thru

so the carbies need larger jets to blance out the air-fuel mix

no pros or cons just something that needs to be done

Bigger Carbies

more power from bigger carbies, gives more top end and takes from the bottom (standard size is 26mm)

Bigger Jets

the jets let more fuel through, because aftermarket pipes were fitted more fuel is used with the more air to make more HP

10 Thou Head

10thou was taken off the head, this would give more compression and mkes more powe down low

Reeds

these let the fuel and air in from the crankcase and also seal it on the crankcase compression, people have preferences on types of reeds, these are supposed to give better and smoother throttle response

hope that clears a bit up for you

I second that one, but I highly doubt it is in the area of 70HP, great to hear you got it though man, well done.

yeah, i was thinking the 70HP was a bit inflated aswell... i think maybe 53-58HP would be more accurate.

10 thou is actually .25mm so its the first oversize. this is a good thing. (if its true)

10 thou is not much taken off the head, i would shave it another 15-20 thou Wink

see if you can find out who ported it, and what kind of port job it is. also try and find out who built the crank.

70hp is more than likely an overstatement!

i would do some reading up on 2 strokes in general and also on how to jet them, and do a few plug chops before you ride it too much. 310 sounds about right, but it pays to check.

regardless of all that it sounds like you got a good buy!

post some pics!

yeah def sounds like you got a sweet bike for the money, but def not 70hp pretty sure that much ponies would make the motor let go pretty quick!! i'm told the bottom end wont handle much more than high 60's..

Sweet ride but all the same hey, have fun Very Happy Very Happy
