Honestly mate i wouldn't just narrow your options to a banshee, have a look at the 4 stroke market around that price range also, i currently ride a YFZ 450, a few of my mates have banshee's and constantly winge about the handling.. In my opinion you'll get a far better bike for the money from the 4 stroke range.
Although ya cant beat the rip ya arms out power of a 2 stroke but.. _________________ '05 YFZ450

or the simplicity and reliability... and the fact that you can rebuild the motor top to bottom for a couple hundred dollars if u know what your doin...
the handling isnt that bad, you just gotta learn how to ride em that’s all!
any 4 poke you find for $4500 is gonna have alot of hours on it, recipe for disaster...
there are always good banshees for sale around that price range. _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

mate a hve a look around, my mate has a banshee hes so over it, the constant upkeep having to mix fuel, fill up every 2 hours, the pain kickstart, they are a very rattly bike that dont handle great, i bought a 2003 trx400ex honda for $4000 its got low hours pipe, and protapers on it,in my view 4strokes are alot better all round bike, my mate wants a 400cc 4stroke now like mine or a suzi 400. i rekon my bike is great value starts everytime very straight and tidy,if i need to rebuild it its not gonna kill my wallet etheir, the fact is banshees need to be rebuilt very regulary, and arent that reliable. however i dont doubt they have great power. hope this helps. _________________ 08 can-am ds450x

Yeah i def agree thats a really good point hey, if a older 4 stroke lets go your up for big bucks, i have low mechanical experience and i used to rebuild top ends on all my 2 stroke mx race bikes..
banshee's prob the better option for the coin _________________ '05 YFZ450

in my one eyed view of the world i forgot all about the 400ex's, that could be a very good option, you should be able to pick up a good example for that money. they are way more reliable and longer lasting than the new gen 4 strokes. nowhere near as exciting as a banshee though
the last part of your statement is however very untrue. i have a 6 year old banshee engine that is still on original pistons. sure, if you have no idea then you could potentially blow it up every time you ride it, but if you have half a clue it'll last forever! _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |

i like the 4's and the 2 strokes
but the way i see it is-
$4500 you get a good 2 stroke(maybe) it's easy to fix and cheep parts but thats along side the having to do the maintanence and mixfuels and what not
banshees are crap handleing but there design is 20years old or something... still use one enough and you could get good on em... cheep to upgrade (in comparason to engine mods to 4strokes)... power as 2 strokes go have bugger all down low power meaning higher fuel consumption and throttle control at lower speeds...
$6500-8000 get a good 4 stroke (maybe) keeping similar matinance up on it (i pay for the bike shop to do it so it's done right) with no fuel mixture concerns... new designs may be prone to inperfections (falts in manufacture)... new design to improve handeling and weight...
higher torque meaning lower revs less fuel consumption easier throttle control....
in all cases no one can force you to buy something you dont want...
just take peoples opinions and advice and make your own descisions and ride |

Really it just comes down to what kind of ridding you'll be doing and how much you want to spend..
Pretty sure a banshee cheaper to maintain, i think they only need a top end rebuild every 6 months, drop the case oil at the same time.. (don't quote me on that but!)
On my 450 i drop the oil every 5hrs and a new oil filter every second change, piston and rings and adjust head every 6 months..
Either way your guna have a heap of fun, i dont know anyone who's regreted getting on all fours _________________ '05 YFZ450

Haha yeah true but when your running high compression and fully flowed things tend to wear out a bit quicker! def worth the gains but!!
Good post in tech section hey, i just added to it _________________ '05 YFZ450

| i got a 2007 700 raptor and a 2003 banshee and i love ridding both of them. the 700 is like a lounge chair to the banshee an "profanity removed" load easyer to ride where the banshee definatly reminds you that you alive. i agree the fuel mixing and refueling of the banshee gets abit of a pain after a while but you get that with a 2 stroke. |

A banshee quick but lacking in some design and handling, very screamy bike, loads of power, no reverse
at $4500 you will get a great banshee
raptor 660 - comfortable tonnes of torque and plenty of power, the reverse is a great thing in so many ways.
You'll buy a 660 for this price may not have all the goodies but a good place to start.
If I were to look back, I never would buy a banshee... but tonnes of people love em, actually I know of a stock banshee for sale right now for $3500, pm me for more details if you like. |

| Yeah go Banshee. There are alot more hop up parts for a banshee if u decide u want to modify. They are easier to work on. And cheaper for parts. And you want that agreesive feeling of the powerband. Just awsome when you hitting the powerband going through the bush. |

Hi, recently bought a trx400ex 2004 model for $3750 in good conditon for my young bloke. I had a budget of $5000 in mind. Put a set of +2 a-arms , ac nerfs, skid plates, bumper, K&N filter and barkbusters. The bike came with the baffle out of the exhaust and kenda claws xc for boots. Most of the parts were second hand or near new and were priced accordingly. I came in pretty close to budget and my son now has a great quad thats reliable and will last him quite a few years.[ he's only 11 but rides like a demon] thanks scotty. [p.s. just fitted some trx450 shocks to make it a bit more adjustable in the suspension dept.] _________________ 06 700 raptor 50th anniversary |
