Having abit of a dispute with a mate of mine that has a 2003 banshee, NOW, He said to me that the Banshee is 1 of, if not the quickest quad bike off the showroom floor and what i would like to know is, of all the quad's out there that are factory stock which is the quickest and has the highest Top Speed.
Bambardier DS650.
Raptor 660/700
TRX 400/450
Yamaha Banshee 350
Polaris Predator 500
And or course those from Kawasaki, Suzuki and any other's i have missed.

| in stock form id guess the banshee ,, but i had heard the ds 650 was quick from someone not sure though , the raptor 700 is slow even with stuff on it the polaris isnt the fastest thing out there ,, so yeah my guess would be the banshee or perhaps the honda 450 top end is a hard one as its hard to measure for example a whole groupm of us where down the beach having races the other week and not one bike won every race although i did beat dave n every time ha ha ha ha haha |

Hi all,
Love this thread which talks about speed!! If this was the eighties and I was back in my 20's I'd pipe up and proclaim to the world how fast my Suzy 500 QuadZilla is - STOCK! But it isn't the eighties and I'm on the wrong side of 40 for such talk these days . . . but . . .
One post talked about 112kph . . . was that still in 3rd gear? Oh, OK, you really want to know about STOCK quad speed from the eighties? OK, gather 'round and listen up kiddies. We were all down at Kurnell in Sydney one Sunday afternoon, my mate and I with our 6 month-old LT500R's. They were, and still are, like Siamese twins as they are only one digit apart in serial numbers! Anyway, A guy came up to us on a DRBIG (Suzuki DR800 - single cylinder Thumper bike, out of production now) and after we chatted for a while he agreed to clock us on the short stretch of tar road along side one of the refineries there. We joked that he wouldn't be able to keep up but he did, just! We had our run, twice, and he promptly informed us that we'd touched 130kph before we had to back off. The guy on the 800 (name escapes me) was the guy who was later made a quadraplegic in an accident riding for Action Motorcycles in one of those overseas desert races (Baja?).
Thank you for listening and humouring an old guy and his mispent youth . . . now be careful with all that talk about speed. The 'ol girl Zilla may be listening and re-living her younger days. You don't want to get her excited . . . or angry. Cheers, Brian. _________________ Suzuki LT500R 'QuadZilla' - as strong & as pretty as the day it rolled out of the showroom - my baby since new! |

| Hey disco just remember your bike aint no stocker, what about that switch you flick to get more rpm but your right its a hard call ,i reckon a stock pred will beat a stock banshee but it'd be close call with the 450 , the ltz was way quick too |

Raptor 660 130kph
YFZ 142 kph with 22" rubber
LT-R about 135 kph 20" rubber

Love the top end stuff
OUr standard TRX and YFZ with mufflers on bitumen
YFZ - 126km and hit rev limiter
TRX - 129km and still didnt hit rev limiter
We had one of those Husaberg 660 and my dad wanted to know the top end. That was a stoopid idea. I know car speedos arent real accurate, but I was doing 130 in a land cruiser and he was pulling away..LOL |

ha ha dave knew youd bight yeah i do have a little button thats why i didnt use my bike as an example cause its never even seen the light of day in stock form .
i forgot about the suzuki that would come into contention but seeing as it ugly it dont matter hahaha only joking like a couple of people have said about the syrface they are on my mate had his banshee with pipes filter and jetting sitting next to a commo at atouch over 145 but thats on bitumen less resistance than sand or loose dirt and dave you cant count downhill races with the engine of cause the 2.5 tonne pred would only maybe get beaten by the dinli ha hah all said and done they are allo fun and all have there good points even the dinli ,, and dave i got the newie it looks trick , ive started to pull it down but thought id better not get ahead of myself we have a big job ahead of us next week see you sunday for the pred vs yfz fittnmess battle |

| I couldn't be bothered searching for the info if it is available but it would be easy to work out the theoretical top speeds as long as you know the rev limit, gear and sprocket ratios and tyre diameter. From there you could see if some of these claimed speeds are possible. I would have thought that most quads would be able to hit the limiter in top given their relatively short gearing. |

My mate reckons his stock 03 banshee does about 130kmh stock out of the box, does that sound about right ?, another mate on his XR600 said that they were doing 110'ks an hour and then the banshee took off from there on a bitumen road and then he powered up to catch him but he had backed off and was slowing down but he caught a glimpse of his speedo and it was in the 120's somewhere, so is it possible ?.
I did hear a guy at a place in melbourne called K&J Thomas tell him that his built 1 and it's done around 180+k's an hour top speed but it is worked right up.
I am thinking of buying a new quad myself but i want something faster than him so what would your recommendations be.
Sounds like it would be between a YFZ 450 and a TRX 450 or am i just better off buying a banshee aswell. |

| yes he was sober but i used that as an example that a car speedop and sitting next to something with a speedo is not an accurate way of measuring speed so before you be a smart arse read the whole post and take an objective view as has been stated in plenty of posts in plenty of topics there are many factors to consider not just top speed , also there are so many things that can vary top speed ie wind(head or tail) rider weight , im considerabley lighter than dave n so thats why im faster , ha ha ha ha ha and also rider position as the aformentioned dave can tell you , the best way i can think of getting your top speed without spending alot of cash is to mark a 1km straight with enough run up to get to your top speed before you get to the start line then time your self do the maths and you will have a very accurate speed |
