haha husky
well there is a certain bike/s doin clutches but we wont go there hey husky lol
anything that has engine work is gonna fail in the box and if u say he gets quite a long time outa the trx box b4 it blows and hes pretty much pro i wouldnt expect anything else
from hearing on the grape vine i think a couple of yamahas have done the tranny but dont know what caused it or how many hrs were on them so cant really comment but the only one ive heard of heaps is obviously the ltr's as u know
As for the dealer saying its cause of the cherry bomb he needs one up his arse cause my ltr has a full yoshi system, programmable pim unit and prodesign filter its also running 20" tyres at the mo.
i wouldnt say im a pro but i consider myself quick and my bike cops it big time, from day one ive hardly used the clutch upshifting and most downshifting and if it wasnt going to go into gear i put more pressure on the gearlever till it did lol but i never changed the clutch never had any of the engine apart, apart from servicing it.
and plus im sure theres more powerful ones than mine copin a floggin
i love the ktm all i done is adjust the rebound setting on the front shocks a bit lowered it bout 40mm and it feels so good landing the jumps at our mx track feels smooth (if u hit the landings that is) and thru woops etc it keeps nice and straight and enough power to wheelstand outa corners etc
problem is i keep breaking it and the missus is gettin a bit thin with me pullin bits of hers lol _________________ go hard or go home |

| Just to clear a couple of points. 06-07 LTR tranny is completely different to 08. The failure shown in the pics above appear to always stem from bikes that have worn gear dogs [ and usually done lots of hard work ] and already have symptoms of jumping out of gear. This eventually leads to the pin breaking off the shift fork and the box managing to select two gears at once and the results are not pretty. The cases I have seen have ALWAYS come from worn/damaged gear dogs on the 06-07 models. Ive also seen 06-07 LTR's with hundreds of hours on them without any gear failures, it probably depends on how the box is treated. I have yet to see a 06-7 transmission fail due to the "whine" that some forums refer to. LESSON 1, if you have ANY brand quad that is showing signs of jumping out of gear, FIX IT NOW!!! its gonna cost alot more later if you leave it. |

| The whine people refer to, or sometimes called a screech, was often on deceleration or no load when riding, [ only 06-7 models I have seen so far and only a small % of whats out there ] the ones I have seen dont do it when in gear and stationary with the clutch in. I'm pretty sure its caused by close tranny clearances, seems to be Ok when tranny loosened up a bit or some people say changing oil brand/type has resolved the noise. The 08 is a very mechanicaly quiet motor by comparison to others but makes a little cam chain whine, it is negligable and nothing to worry about, is this what you refer to? |

yeah thats it i was thinking it had something to do with the gear clearances or the clutch basket maybe but is hard to pick at the same time _________________ go hard or go home |

the "whine" is caused by the wife finding out how much i spend on quads - don't think it can be fixed. _________________ Raptor 700 |

Nah, ya cant fix it completly but if u get a nice loud aftermarket can and ride more often you cant hear the ''whine'' as loud or as often _________________ BETA 2 BURNOUT THAN FADE AWAY |

Hi Dave,
A mate of mine bought a new car a few years ago and ended up in a similar situation.
He made a massive bulletin board which read ( I bought this car brand new and cant use it as it has reliability problems and my warranty is not being honored )
He left the vehicle ( with the bulletin board ) in a popular public location for a few days, he also took a photo and sent it to the manufacturer - They replaced his car for him.
You may / may not want to do this at a few race meets?
Good luck. |

| Gday mate. My mate over here in wa mulched third gear at full noise doing a pony express. Did a bit more damage than just the gear. Took it back to savage suzuki and was fixed. no questions no charge. My young bloke did the same thing on his ltz 400. same again. fixed no questions no charge. I think the dealer you got it from is possibly a pillow biter and did not squeeze suzuki enough. |

my 3rd gear also went and my bike was about 4 months out of warranty and Savage Suzuki did a good will claim or something and all parts were paid 4 accept labor oil and coolant and i also got the billet gears put in. i still had 2 pay a bit but they got some covered by Suzuki. _________________ 08 LTR450 (FOR SALE)
