G'day mark i'd say with all the crap flying around now with gearbox issues on there 08's i reckon they will have the strongest gearbox on the planet. Oh wait up thats what i heard about the 07's. Tell your mate there are 2 yellow bikes out there.

the gearbox issue is in the 08 not the 07 only time a 07 had issue was when they hi comped and worked the top end Tait Ovens 07 runs production and expert class this season and last and has had no issues

The way the people at Suzuki seem to be denying knowledge of any problem you would have to assume it hasn't been fixed for the 2009 model.

Son Cam, #7 , has had three 06/07 LTR's , national clubman '06, National expert and National and state production 07, never one problem with the tranny and you cant say they werent ridden hard, as Brad said like Tait's, all stock engines and never even had the head off one of those bikes.

It seems to me if you punt any race quad hard enough for long enough, it eventually will give tranny problems, lots more load than a two wheeler but gearbox is not much heavier. Ive seen issues with all the major brands, so I dont think any are imune from it. As i said in the other thread, as soon as they start to jump out of gear, fix it IMMEDIATELY. otherwise the end consequences are usually not good.

this isnt entirely true, i have a yz450f motor in my trx250r hybrid and have over 50 odd hp and have had no tranny problems (touch wood!)
this set up has been used since 2000 when Tim Farr ran one in his championship winning 250r. they are common practice in the states and gearbox are not a normal issue even though they are bike motors.
I would say this is rather a problem specific to the ltr.... its a real shame because the ltr is the first quad ive ridden that handles or feels like the legendary trx250r ! if i was to buy a new quad it would have been the ltr, but not now, hope they fix it soon... |
