The open class capacities for Quads in the MAMoMS are 2s 550cc max of 2 cylinders, 4s 700cc max of 2 cylinders , but MA have conceded to a an 800cc class for the Australian safari and enduro events in some states _________________ we do not stop racing because we grow old

Why is the a capacity limitation on what is an "open" class?? How are manufacturers going to be inspred to build better quads until we let privateers build race quads capable of beeting their egg beaters.
We are the consumers how can we influence the market if we cant show the market what we want? Particulartly in something like the finke where we can have A 2 wheel KTM 990 when quads have been proven safer to ride (stat data all avilable from America at this time) why cant we race a similar capacity?
If you build and it meets the safety regs, race it! _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Geeman, the capacity limits are set on advise by the rules comittee of MA, if people or manufacturers wish to have the rules changed they must submit a request to that comittee on the form provided in the back of the MoMS or by approaching their state controlling body to make such a request or submission , MA CAN AND WILL change or amend the rules if it is in the interests of fair competition and / or safety as has been demonstrated by the recent increase in the capacity for the Australian Safari to 850cc ( thanks Paul ) but unless those submissions are made they do not have any reason or inclination to make change , availability of models does not automatically result in changes to the rules. _________________ we do not stop racing because we grow old

Ive got no problem with process as such as outlined like i said if it meets safety regs.
But lets face it, capacity increases are across the board in motorcycling, particularly road bikes.
Now that hasn't passed on the dirt bikes bevause of weight considerations normally.
But Quads are different in that regard we already have the arctic cat 1000 on the market when will we get the Cam Am equivalent Renegade ,atching capacity, probably less than two years would be my guess.
Will race engines get much more capacity? I dont know they're a little more static, but recreational quads will be another story so Cam Am, Polaris and Arctic Cat are the brands to watch there and AG quads all round.
As far as Manufacturers changing biks to suit rules doesnt that happen ever year in GP? I think it does pass on and fillter down. People want to race/ride the same capacity bikes running round the track.
I'd put my $5 on if US declared an "open" capacity class a 1000-1200cc twin would appear from some manufacturer in the next year. Particularly for cross country/ enduro's. They just build to demand, and were the demand. Why do you think they do questionaires and user testing and feedback and all this gear?
I really do think its that simple. Be interesting to see anyway.
