Hi gang..
Can anyone help me with sugestions on how to remove the "Magneto cover" on my wifes 660R. We are puting in a new one-way starter clutch.
But we cant get it of. Have used a custom built puller, tried a little heat, gave it a "tap". ?????
F@#%$ if i know.
Oh yes, I did un-do the retainer nut. just incase you ask.
Any help would be appriciated.

Cheers...Rosco

have seen a few bush mechnics put a solid brass rod on shaft and give it a crack with a hammer - don't know if it's a good idea but worked everytime.

Yeah...tried that too.
I'm a bit worried about hitting it to hard.
I even tried giving it a tap with the puller on.
I'm thinking of giving it a little bit of heat.
Any thoughts...

Cheers

Rosco, I take it that what you mean is the flywheel on the end of the crank and not the alternator cover, Yamaha have a specific flywheel removing tool and you can also buy them from some of the aftermarket companies I would strongly advise against using a universal car type three finger puller as they tend to damage the rotor, a little heat , CRC , and a tap on the end of the puller usually will get the job done, if not take it to a Dealer ( as they should have the correct puller ) and get them to do it.

G'Day HSR.
Yeah, its the "Magneto Rotor" . This has the one-way starter clutch mounted behind it. I have fabricated a puller that is identical to the one
in the yamaha service manual. This one uses the three bolt threads inside the rotor. I'm not using a "Arm" type puller.

I'm tipping it's just stubborn.
I was just hoping someone knew a trick around it.

Job is done.

I ended up going and buying a Harmonic Balencer Puller, some M8 long unbrako bolts. Put some (heaps) of pressure on it, Still nothing. Then I got a 12mm steel rod and just taped the mount near the shaft and it just poped of.

All up the whole job only cost us $172.85.
Not bad when Frankston Yamaha wanted $582.00 just for a stock one-way gear.

Thanks everyone for the sugestions etc.

Cheers....Rosco
