Got the wife the new 350 this year. This is her first quad and we felt that the size and power would suit the type of riding she does now (mainly trail) until she decided what style of racing, if any, she wanted to do in the future. From what I have heard, these bikes are pretty much bullet proof but you may want to look at the 250 or 450 if she is looking at getting into racing at some stage. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

Its about time they changed the class and made it 200cc up to 350cc. what do you do if your child is to big for a 250. both my daughters ride 350cc raptors but cant race them because of this. One is 12 and the other 15. These are a great bikes, low maintance. _________________ 'THANKS TO"

the raptor 350 is the perfect choice for filling the liluns gap from tiny bike to the biguns i started riding on a 350 and there bullet proof they wont break down on u, u can ride it all day long comfortably and if the person in question who will be riding it wants to go faster adding a pipe, good tyres and extras makes it an aggressive ride just take a look at this vid from when i still rode my raaptor

Just checking Yam USA website
Rap 250 = 313 pounds
Rap350 = 375 pouns
So even if you do take the 250 the power to weight ratio is going to be not too bad by comparison it appears oin the surface (unless theyve downed HP for torque on one)
Given the lightness of the 250 appears that will be enough power to get a young person in trouble yet light enough to steer or pull/ push out of a bush.
May ven be light and therfore bouncey enough that you need to be aware of lightness of steering and look at dampening it I would guess if its flighty.
Dont know what you think about that boss, Callum how "flighty was the 350? Should have been OK at that weight? _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

well u can call me a stick in the mud if u want but i recken 250cc is more than plenty hp 4 a young fella, my young fella (12) rides a 85 half quad mxr have let him go 4 the odd blast on the banshee(350cc)but with the power 2 weight ratio i reckon it turns the shee into a 500 . SCARY S#*T 2 watch and if your young fella wants 2 MX 250cc is the limit _________________ BETA 2 BURNOUT THAN FADE AWAY |

Did just appea to me in the very good vids of Callum that he easily outsized the 350 and its not a "smal" bike. Ive seen some 6ft 12yo's so it may well be warranted, within two years he could be racing 450.
But if he's a lil un like I was 250 will scare his pants off and be 3 years worth of racing from dot.
Sounds like were trying live your life for ya Exrider. Maybe I should shut my frickin mouth then, sorry. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

Hey I qualified my statement in terms of what I was talking about i dont know what you're gettin in a twist all over Baker Boy.
I have worked for many years coaching juniors, some will have the size and strength to pull it off, some will also have the expereince and almost none will have the maturity. Sorry for you but thats just the development path of a 12yo.
I just hope EXrider can make an educated an informed decision about his choice by participating in discussion, or maybe yore caps lock just got stuck on. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

No Probs brother always good to clarify,
Theres also the point of we dont know whether the young lad wants to race and for my case i know nothing about racing to know the classes available but I assume 250, 450 and open??
Is there a good article you know or a quad site or is it all tied up with MA sites? Just as an aside sorry ex-rider to hijack that. _________________ www.asho.com.au for your shooting and outdoor needs

depends on the kid i think - if racing isn't your priority.
12yrs i would & have let my son ride anything but some of his freinds i woudn't trust on a 50. _________________ Raptor 700 |

No I appreciate the input.
We mostly ride dunes - no interest in racing, the boy has done 2 years on a 90 but is frustrated with the lack of power and not being able to keep up with everyone else.
I'm thinking with him still growing and dune riding he is going to outgrow a 350 quick, he rides my ex400 ( which isnt big on power anyway) he was riding a friends DS650 and having fun. So I'm still undecided on what to look at, maybe LTZ 400 or just leave him with the ex and I get something else I just need to do something soon, its turning him off riding with the 90. _________________ 05 400ex

Rides as DS650!! Holy snapping duckpoo batman!!
Am I guna have to build a litre class special just so I dont get embarrased by a 12yo?
I know Im getting old but Im not quite ready to be relegated to "uncompetitive"!!
You'll know best. If he sizes up well, has the strength and most importantly has the maturity to ride mithin his limits as he grows into the machine only you can judge.
Given you;re type of riding etc etc
Good luck to you an the young punter, and may the "ex-rider" get the opportunity to ghange his name to the newly revamped rider!!
Regards
