I'm happy with mine. Though the first thing I did was fitted all new light duty truck tyres. Pulls easy. Free advice, get electric brakes.

GYTR Raptor, how much was yours, what brand, supplier etc? I like the added clearance and lower ride height.
I've read they have a long life with no maintenance (some claim lifetime or 20yrs) so re-bushing them might not be an issue. They also offer independent travel and self-dampening. _________________ Proud Member of QuadridersSA

My self I'd gone the little extra and gotton eye-eye springs, but it comes down to personal choice.
But here's a tip for free, go and buy your self some spare U bolts, cost 10 bucks if your lucky, because if you break one, its gunna be a friday night or a sunday arvo in the back of no where and you wont get till till monday morning. I know. I now carry a full sett on my trailer. |
That is a great idea. Thanks for the tip. Will go out on monday and get some spare u bolts. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

Inside the box it's 3m long x 2m wide x 1.2 high when closed. Open has a max internal height of 2.4m so you don't hit your head.
When closed for travel it is 1.8m tall and weighs 620kg empty. 13" wheels off a Torana.
The sign work is by Frank at Magic Signs 0402 314 308.
I built the trailer myself and had nothing to copy. It is my first attempt at such a thing but I am very happy with it. _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

All these trailers are great, many different ideas to suit diff. needs. I can't
wait to get home and do some more work on my trailer which had it's
maiden voyage to Canberra, a couple of little "hiccups" along the way but towed like a dream. On the return trip my mate Mick towed it and reported no problems at all.
I will one day get some help and post some pics of it, is similar to Smittys'
but only 1.5m high with a pop-top roof, still lots of work to fit it out and finish it off.
Cheers Deano. |

alright i been doing the sums and due to were i live freight is going to kill me and a trailer cost so here my proposal im going to go buy a new mig welder, all the materials and build the trailer myself and i should come out about half price. im mechanically minded and ive built two trailers before so its not to hard. what i want is some ideas of what all you trailer people have added to make your trailer more friendly and some measurements of things that work, like i know a longer drawbar means better towing, you put your axle just back of the centrepoint, etc . i currently have one quad and would like the room to be able to walk into the trailer and fit another quad so im thinking a dual axle enclosed trailer with rear loading door and side access door. if i make it 2m high i cant see the need for a lifting roof. im thinking 25m rhs for the trailer cage, 90x40 rhs for chassis probally clad the trailer with colourbond flat sheet _________________ "IF YOU DONT BREAK IT YOUR NOT GOING HARD ENOUGH" |

A little advice, use aluminium sheets, colorbond is tooo heavy.
Use sikaflex every where that way you can keep rivets to a min. I have seen trailers fully clad with this stuff, no pop rivets.
Plan around sheet size if you can. This will min the need to cut sheets.
Where two sheets meet try and butt join them if you can. Where the join is you may have to use wider rhs. (again this works around the sheet sizes)
Give yourself months to finish if you are fussy. You will be suprised how lond it takes to build from scratch.
Plan well.
Good luck! _________________ When I'm racing I'm living..... everything else is just waiting. |

that trailers not to bad, but i rang kool trailers a few months ago and they basically said would cost me $13k for a similar trailer 8-10 month wait and then i have to pay nearly 4k in freight on top you can see why its economical for me to build one _________________ "IF YOU DONT BREAK IT YOUR NOT GOING HARD ENOUGH" |

8 to 10 mths?
i find that hard to believe as i was only talking to andy the other day
from when you order to being finished is ussually 10 to 12 weeks with 50% deposit to start it then another 30% when it is at powder coating stage and final 20% at end of it all
think mine to build full price andy said $11000 to $11500 now with steel prices gone up
i seen this on ebay today pity i got mine now or would have bought this only 100 kms from me

Mate I have refrained from commenting for I build trailers as part of my business. If you are going to kept your trailer for any length of time use ali 1mm sheets and rub it down with ali bright and undercoat and paint it with 2 pac DON'T use sign white or thin colour bond . Ali and 2 pac is cheaper lasts longer , stronger , lighter won't rust , cut and polish your paint and at the end of the day you can fix . Ever tried to color match colourbond white is the worst. sign white is exactly what it says a white backing for a sign.

well i am happy with mine the way it is i know you build your own i have had a look at them and you are to far away and freight would make the cost overwhelming and also do you powder coat frame?
also we dont have humidity probs like darwin so rust isnt as much a issue
not nit picking but just IMO as alot of colorbond trailers are out there and more then aluminium ones so .................cant be all that bad _________________ black covered in 5.7 powered oversize quad

Ally is always going to be stronger, because of the alloy content in it . So 1mm steel cant be as strong as 1mm ally, 2mm steel is stronger than
1mm ally, I think. _________________ 2005 KFX700

there is no downward or side ward pressuse on a flat peice of steel stuck on a side of a trailer, and when the flat sheets combined with the sketelton frame makes the trailer strong or even stronger depending on the what you use.
and the weight factor is the main difference between steel frame and ally frames, so whay not factor in thicker ally to give even more strength, thats why they do it.
disclaimer: no one is having a crack at your trailer okay _________________ 2005 KFX700
