Hi everyone, Im just wondering if anyone out there owns a 08 ltr 450,the reason im asking is last week i changed the oil on mine and to my supprise a bit of gear tooth came out with the oil.I raced the next day and dropped the oil again and another bit of tooth came out, now im gettin worried this shouldnt be happining to a bike with about 5 hours on it .Im real carful when shiffting never flat shift or without clutch, anyway just wondering if anyone else has had trouble with theres.I've heard some real worrying reports on us forum sites of major transmission failures on 08 ltr's, Something to do with they changed the material they make the gears out of and instead of being better its 10 times worse. So let us know if you own a 08 and your having the same probs.

Cheers Dave Sad

get it apart ASAP. they seem to be dropping 3rd gear and if you leave it it will run busted bits of gearbox through the whole motor. the trouble started in 07 and Suzuki's response was to change the thickness of the gears rather than the manufacturing process.

If you can get it to a Suzui dealer and push then for warranty......

Yeah peteW I'll be take'n it back to the dealer asap it still has 3 months left on waranty so there is one positive i guess. When they replace the gears do they put the same crappy gears in so she'll last another 5 hours or do they have a more permenent fix, seems like such a big job only to put the same crap back in and its like waiting for a time bomb ready to go off.Its hard to beleive they got the rest of the bike so right, power, chasis, efi, nice wide stance its perfect for the first time racer in its stock form without spending $$$$$$ on a arms shocks rear axle and stuff.Maybe the guy who desigined the gear box is a saki swiggen lonner who seperated himself from the rest of the team who did such a good job in the manufacture of this bike. I'll let you know how i got on at the dealer in the comming weeks.

cheers dave Smile

Importantly, If you report you legitimate warranty problem inside the warranty period, it should be covered for repair.
Get it to a dealer straight away or at least fill out a product report and take the bits of teeth.
If fixed as warranty they might replace with the same parts that may fail again, I would discuss Suzuki support on the repairs.
Ask what they have done differently to prevent the problem occuring again.
If nothing, then politely let them know that you'll come straight back if it happens again, expecting it to be covered.
This might help make sure that the dealer records and reports the fault very thoroughly to Suzuki.
