I heard this on the news,
Blackduck closed long distance jumps in the acrobatics area ???

Sounds like there will be some unhappy campers around Qld & Oz !

the acrobatics area hey that sounds cool ha ha the distance jump wasn't dangerous in my opinion you could hit it 4th gear on a quad and were lucky to make it to the tip of the hill which wasn't even half way or you could hit it in 1st and jump 1 meter and it was still safe, some better patrolling of the place would be good though im getting sick of riding with guys in thongs and shorts on the track.

lol, flaming acrobats eek , i think the media should do a backflip and get the facts straight, but they won't Mad
I think you nailed a solution with a few quick lessons on personal safety, and bike maintenence , if people knew better , I'm sure they would be willing to comply. Singlet , shorts and thongs , that sounds a bit too relaxed, even by QLD standards eek .

MQ had this to say,
Motorcycle Queensland (MQ) says it is extremely important the operators of a recreation park near Gatton obtain accreditation with industry groups.

State coroner Michael Barnes found three deaths at Black Duck Valley were preventable.

He has recommended improved Government oversight of recreational parks and ensuring park management have some accreditation with motoring groups.

MQ's chief executive Lindsay Granger says Black Duck Valley is one of a handful of groups that is not monitored by his organisation.

"We run substantial numbers of recreation events right throughout Queensland already," he said.

"The idea of having competency-based licensing program for riders in recreation is nothing new, it just hasn't been used in Black Duck, so those sorts of issues are simply a matter of taking up what is currently the industry standard."

even grading people on certian days controling where different people can ride would help with accidents....

i guess the club could make some extra money outta it too....
cant see why they dont bring in grading of riders....

A-grade - ride everywhere

B-grade - take away hardest jumps and or give demerits to people going up and over their limit.... (or just basic unsafe riding)

C-grade - newbies!

hold gradings identifying weather or not different people will be allowed to get to the next level and be alowed on more tracks or jumps....

but
then again how much would that suck!

Blackduck valley operators posted on their myspace that following the coroners inquiry they have been forced to close their freestyle ramps and the 100ft table top until further notice.

I wish an indemnity protected the park owners better such that if you sign-off that you won't sue if you kill/injure yourself doing something in their park then you can't sue. All riders know they put life and limb at risk whenever we throw the long over and if you stuff up you could die but we are all prepared to take that risk coz we get a buzz out of what we do. Pitty the do-gooders don't realise this.

Something along those lines might not a bad idea Random, it might suck to start with but people would become accustomed to the practice, and being allowed on the next level of track would be reward in itself , non competetive progression , so to speak !

Ahh , thanx m8 , thats a bit clearer than accrobat area, I was concerned they might include all the MX tracks with the media released statement!
That won't affect me so much, still it's a pity , it's only taking away from the competent riders who prefer to go big and as LB said they are as safe as ramps get !
We should all know by now just getting of our computer chair is dangerous!
I agree with you on just 1 form to sign & waiver your rights to sue , but alas I think those day's are long gone!
Maybe Random is on the right track , I wonder if ride parks will become more competency based , which might not be such a bad thing after all ?
