hey guys

ive got some banshee barrels that have a killer port job, but they are on their last bore

the port job is SO killer that there isnt much meat left in the the transfer runners, ie, alot of the aluminium that is in contact with the iron sleeve is gone, the outside of the sleeve has even been made thinner and re-shaped where it drops down into the crank case.

has anyone ever re-sleeved a barrel like this b4? do you think it can be done with all that material missing?

thanks, mark

yeah the bore is at 66.0mm at the moment, it had want to look good in that photo, coz thats right after they came back from the machine shop!

when using 795 series wiseco pistons the biggest size they make is 66.0mm, i think...

no mate, they were ported by a local machine shop in my home town.

these are my rz barrels

it looks rough but its supposed to be anyway for the intake. the right cylinder has to run a jet size or two bigger than the left but i think thats fairly normal for something that isnt cnc ported!

as you can see it has massive "boyesen ports" linking the intake direct to the transfers. they are so big extra material had to be added to the outside of the barrels.

they run real hard, and should run even harder after it goes back together with a 4mm crank in it and some proper pipes!

yeah with normal wiseco pistons the biggest you can go is 66.5mm, but with the 795 series that you use with the long rods, the biggest they make is 66.0mm

and are you saying if you resleeve it, it has to be a big bore sleeve? i didnt think that was the case, pretty sure i can just go and buy new stock size sleeves and have em fitted

yeah i know, but the different shape of the blaster piston crown wont suit the domes im having made for the 795s... so once it needs bigger pistons than 66mm, itll need new domes too. which wouldnt be so bad i guess, just a pain in the ass!

yeah mate the domes are bein cnc machined to suit the stroker crank

then if i change to blaster pistons, the squish angle will need to change, which will throw everything else out of wack (such as combustion chamber volume) so your better off just starting from scratch with another hunk of 6061... otherwise it wont run to its full potential

lol didnt know we were racing, but thanks anyway!

all of this is probably a waste of time considering i could buy your 421 motor and be done with it... but oh well i love tinkering with "profanity removed", so this suits me!
