 |
|
Its on again. It's a top weekend. Last year about 50 quads & about 80 bikes turned out for it.
The weekend kicks off on Friday night with a countermeal at the pub. A real meet the locals thing.
Saturday morning it's a 1.5 K ride to the motocross track for some time trials followed by wheelie comp & a bit of playing in the MUD.
Then its back to the rodeo grounds (thats where the free camping is) for lunch.
The afternoon is for the gymwheeler. It's kinda like horse sports thing but on wheels.
The locals truck water in to make a MUDPIT in front of the bar that is at your disposal during daylight hours as well. It gets a real hammering after the gymwheeler.
Sunday is the rally day.
For the last few years it has been a 35 K ride mainly in nice sandy riverbeds & over undulating country. There are 5 checkpoints with games for which you accumulate points which determine the winner.
The ride is pretty good fun. It suits all levels of skill. The riverbeds are mostly nice & fast with a few technical spots & occasional shallow water to cool you off. The overland section is a mixture of fast tracks & a slow rocky section to test your skill.
Presentations & lunch are usually over by about 1pm on Sunday. This lets you get away nice and early.
So where is Fosayth you say.
It's between Einasleigh & Georgetown. It has about 100 of the friendliest residents in NQ who put this doo on. Just about the whole town is involved in this thing in some way. They've got a few local riders that know their stuff as well.
Access from Townsville would be via Harveys Range, Lynd Junction & Einasleigh.
Contact Helen on 40625406.
So make plans & see you there _________________ 06 LTZ400

you may even get to throw roost a police officer. sometimes the local policeman gets out in the mudpit and for $10 you can spray as much mud on him as you like.
last year they had roost piled up around him as high as his knees _________________ 04 yfz450 |

Forsayth turned it on again. The weekend involved plenty of riding ,of both MX & cross country & lots of socialising. Saturday night even had a slideshow of the days events & a video shot from a chopper of a group of blokes riding the riverbed on Friday. This was shown on a huge rear projection cinema screen in front of the canteen.
The riverbed ride had plenty of shallow water crossings & the quadriders loved it.
Numbers were down on last year, but about 22 quads & 45 2 wheelers competed in under 9s, 10 to 15s, mens & womens classes in both quad & 2 wheeler for the minimotocross & gymwheeler.
The rally was contested in mens & womens divisions in both Quad & 2 wheeler.
Local rider Colin Mcfarlane took out overall mens quad as well as overall 2 wheeler. The bloke rides like a demon.
Overall womens quad was taken out by Leo Della Bosca from Cairns.
Overall childrens Quad champ was Samantha Zahner. _________________ 06 LTZ400

Where are these people when we are having meets everywhere else???
Doesn't really make sense to me for them not to be turning up to other races and having a go. _________________ Mic

| no nerth bars or kill tether required at this event. natural terrain,10/15k on easy to find multiple ways to go oncorse ,wet and dry sand in river bed ,with friendly organizers makes this event a sucsess now for around twelve yrs.be there next year mid march.they even sourced trophies with quad bikes on them. |

It's run more as a social fun event that is attended by some realy good riders who love to compete. Entry fee this year was more than double last year. It was $10 for each day. Last year it was $4 for Saturday & $5 for Sunday. No club membership or liscence required or scrutineering or probably any rules.
There actualy are rules. You have to wear a helmet & shoes & you can't ride before 6am or after 7pm
Some people turned up & started riding as early as Tuesday & intended to leave on Wednesday (thats tommorow) .
Free camping as well.
Last year there were probably 40 plus quads, of all sorts from farm quads to sports quads, on the Sunday rally.
Trying to get ATV ACTION to run an article on it. _________________ 06 LTZ400

There were some regular Townsville blokes on farm quads, about 5 from Cairns & a few from the Atherton & Mareeba area & the rest from out west.
Our trip from Cairns to Gum Valley set us back close on $1000 for 1 of us to ride a maximum of three 10 minute races.
We took 2 cars & 4 quads to Forsayth & spent about $700 all up & we all had 2 days of riding & socialising.
Gum Valley was 10 hours drive from Cairns & Forsayth is 5 from both Cairns & Townsville.
Does that help you understand why it is well attended? _________________ 06 LTZ400

| gammie89 looks like yous had a great weekend. Congrats on your win. I understand where you are coming from when you hae to spend 10hrs driving and $1000 to do what we did at gum valley. I have been doing this for a few years now even just to drive to a practice to support quad racing in places that have so called "numbers" but dont show up just go trophy hunting. I see yous had 22 riders which is awesome. It would be great if race meets didnt collide. There are a few of us up this way in townsville so racing up your way is no problem or travel, so hopefully you are able to get something happening there cause we will travel up there. The group of riders that do mx will probly come up and support when they can also as we all try and help each other out at race meets in our areas. |
