I had a race meet today went and did one practise lap then started race did 5 or 6 laps and when i got back to the pits i found that my butt was kinda hot and my bike was steaming quite a bit. As i walked around the back of my bike i noticed the whole inside of the the muffler was glowin red but header pipe was good i went to pull my seat off and it was stuck down, finally got it up and what had happen is the muffler has blown a peice outa it about the size of a 10c peice the result is it melted a heap of the plastic under the seat and also melted the bottom of my seat and started to cook the foam.
was wonderin if anyones had this happen or heard of it or similar and what should i do (pipe and ecu has only done about 10hrs work of play ridin).
I was goin to email the shop i bought my pipe from and see what happens there otherwise email yoshi maybe but i seem to think that this should not have happened at all even the rear grab bar was to hot to touch
cheers any help much appreciated _________________ go hard or go home |

just been doing some research and found out on the ltr450hq forum there was a topic on this and a few people had this same problem.
yoshi says its on the "early" model rs5 pipe systems only and between them and the dealer are replacing them free of charge.
mine happens to be an early one so im goin to look into gettin a replacement and new seat, rear plastics and exhaust shield seen as my bike could have quite possibly burnt to the ground
will let u know how i go
cheers _________________ go hard or go home |

Email them the link to the forum website where this problem is being discussed and Yoshi is rectifying the situation.
Also email Yoshi and explain your problem.

It looks like your still running your airbox lid in the photos. I would think you should have removed that when you added the exhaust along with the Yoshi Cherry Bomb to remap the fuel curve to suit.
I would think it would have been running very lean with an aftermarket exhaust with the lid on and may be the reason why the exhaust got too hot and blew out, more so if you weren't running the cherry bomb either.
If however it is a known Yoshi fault with this model of pipe I would be seeking full reimbursement for all the damage. Looks like you were lucky it didn't burn to the ground. _________________ Proud Member of QuadridersSA

okay, i do that too when I wash mine. I just read that you must remove the cherry bomb with the PIM on the Yoshi site so you had the setup right. Hope they come to the party for you, they've good a good reputation to uphold so you would expect they would. _________________ Proud Member of QuadridersSA

usually leaving your lid on the airbox restricts air flow, which would make it run richer than having it off...?
its a moot point anyway coz he doesnt run it like that but yeah! _________________ 2002 SE Banshee |
