hey guys

im thinking of designing a mini buggy, similar to an "Edge Products" sidewinder, http://www.edge.au.com/buggies_sidewinder.htm but i want it to be a much more capable, race ready machine.

i will design a new chassis constructed of chro-mo tube, and want to hang long travel quad suspension off the front and rear of the thing. (eg an aftermarket yfz450 front end with elka suspension, and a yfz450 swingarm with long travel linkage and shock etc)

do any of the current 450s have a swingarm in which the axle carrier can be run the other way around, so that the brake disc and sprocket end up swapping sides? this is necessary due to the engine being mounted to the right of the driver

thanks, mark

would an irs setup be better suited to what you're doing?

cos i met a guy in townsville who had the sidewinder (or swingarm version)
and he ended up changing it to the inderpendant rear suspention one
said he got sick of having to hop out and pushing it off mounds and stuff (botteming out on the tracks he was following!)

i always wanted to make a smaller one
(as to not need a car trailer to carry them)
but then i got a quad!

With all that weight, i suggest a DS650 swingarm and chain.

hey man is this the guy with the r1 in it? he was down cungulla when we went for a ride last year, we had a flat track set up on the beach and he came for a few laps, he was rounding up everyone, even the bikes, then he blew a drive shaft! ive got some video somewhere, have to post it up

yeah the irs ones are too big and heavy for what i want, its not gonna be a radical jumping machine, although it should be a formidable weapon with aftermarket, wide, 450 suspension!

hopefully power it with a highly modified LT500 quadzilla engine... see where im goin with this thing?

hey i was down cungulla that day!
i had a couple of laps and couldnt get tracton as no wheel grip!!!

that machiene that guy had was nuts! but still huge!
the guy i m talking about had an even heavyer (more the sidewinder style) with 40x40 steel section everwhere (ie bloody heavy)
but he was only running a XR250 engine!
he said the xr600 he had in it had just blown up
so he chucked in the 250 engine and changed the ratio so it could move....
went good still just overheated every now an then!

if i where to build a wepon or beach racer i'd probally look at youtubes many quad-r1 or 600cc hybrid colections! ive heard even a few guys down south still use there zzr600cc /yfz quad for MX!
