Well my motor let go in my banshee yesterday.. Sad

Have pulled it apart, its not pretty..
Crank is damaged etc.

Now i been looking at options i am thinking of goin with a kit similar to this but using .040 pistons..
its 5mm long rod +4mm stroker kit

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching&viewitem=&item=120187096454&_trksid=p3907.m32

Now is there anything i need to be aware of when goin for a stroker?

Can i use the stock barrels etc, i have heard with some strokers you need to a spacer or something to lift the barrels?

I have some time as im getting the $$ together as it wasnt budgeted for Rolls eyes i just want to do my homework and do it right, and figure if its gotta be fully rebuilt so why not make it something special. laughing

Any advice/hints/tips/personal experiences that people can share would be greatly appreciated. eek

Thanks in advance
Trav.

you can use stock barrels thou they will need to be ported to suit the 4mm crank

and youll have to have the head machined or buy a pro design one with the domes already cut for a stroker, thats if you dont use a spacer plate.

Going 4mil is the way to get decent power ,and advaning your timming
you will have to get it ported by some one who no's how,not sure who could do it here in aus be around $600 for port work ,but prob for a little extra get some cub cylinders i can prob get you a set for around $800 -$1000 then you will be good for around 85 hp.dont forget you need reeds carbs igniton mapping cool head timming plate and pipes

The cub cylinders come already ported to suit the 4mil stroker? no other work on them needed? 5mm long rod isnt an issue?

Doin a quick search on the net i have seen them in 65mm and 68mm.. 68mm would run .080 over size pistons right? would the cylinders have a rebuild or 2 left in them if i went for something like the 68mm cubs?

Also what size carbs would i need to run such a set up? The stock ones with large jets wont do? would a single carby set up be better?

I have FMF fattys with powercore2 silencers, im assuming they would be up the the task?

Ok.. i decided against the stroker.

A 5mm long rod kit with .080 pistons is on its way Wink

what is your bore at now? there is n o point to excessivly bore the motor to 80thou. Going long rod is a good idea, it reduces rod angle in turn reduces crank load.

stock bores at the moment.

you have to use the .080 pistons with the long rod unless you want to lift your cylinders which is kinda a waste of time having the long rod from what i have read and been told.

My mate runs the same set up i am getting and it works great!!!

who ever told you that must be thinking that you have to use blaster pistons with the long rod, but you dont.

you can get 795 series wisecos, which is a banshee piston with the gudgeon pin located 5mm higher, in 64mm, 64.5, 65, 65.5 and 66.

so you would want the 64.5mm, which are only 20 thou over.

your mates cylinders were prob on their second last bore when he rebuilt with the long rod kit, hope they were anyway, other wise he wasted 3 bore sizes going to straight to the 66mm (80 thou)!!

JMC also told me that you have to use the blaster piston which is only .080

Im getting wiseco .080..

not from JMC though.

I wont have my banshee by its next rebuild i hope.

If I still have it then i'll worry about it then Razz

damn that sux, you have to resleeve now if you ever stuff your bores.

not really a big deal, but it will cost you something like $300-400 extra come rebore time.

pretty surprised JMC sold you that, unless it was back in the days when you had to use blaster pistons? (that was a long time ago though i think!)

your wasting your time if your going the bigger bore for more power.

the 6% increase in capacity never results in a 6% gain in horsepower due to less transfer port area with the bigger bore...

There are still at least 3 more rebores left after 80 thou. There is next to no gain in HP in going long rod and standard size pistons. With the the Blaster setup you will get 370cc and a lot more pulling power. You loose transfer area when its resleeved bigger.

yep i take back my previous comment on the 80 thou being your last bore.

i had a brain freeze there, my own RZ motor is on 66mm (80 thou) so i shouldve known better!!

wiseco make a regular banshee piston up to 66.5mm (100 thou) which leads you to believe you can bore the stock sleeves that far, although im sure my local engine machine shop has told me in the past that not all standard cyls can go this far (they have done alot of banshees)

so going by wisecos product list theres only 2 bores left after 80 thou, if your lucky!
