 |
|
While my banshee is apart i thought id freshen up the frame.
Those of you that have done your frame what did you use and how has it held up?
Im leaning towards powder coating but i have seen a couple of 2 wheelers that have worn off some of the powder coat pretty quickly..
Paint will chip and scratch easier...
Anyone done theirs?
Anyone that has had it powdercoated, how much roughly did they charge you?
Thnaks

I did my banshee not to long ago. i had the frame and swing arm and a few other thins sand blasted and zink coated. this cost me $200.
and the powder coating cost me $250. price depends on colour and also which place you go to. I wouldnt waste time and money painting it because it will come off in no time. two wheel bike are different because your legs constantly rub on the side of the frame. hope this helps. _________________

powder coating is the best for a bike or quad for price and how long it last,to put paint up to the same standard as powder coat you would have to get it painted in 2pack and that cost big $$$$ so go the powder coat ..i had a frame done about 3 years ago and it cost me $150 that was sand blasted and powder coated so i can only guess its about $200 to $300 now?? (this was in W.A. to ) _________________ Sponsors ,Cullys Yamaha,Pirtek Malaga

Good stuff, guess that makes my decision for me.. just wanted to hear others have had success powder coating
And you are right about the 2 wheelers, its where their boots sit that its worn off.
What was the zinc coating for buzz.8? I dont know much about that _________________ If this message creates confusion, my work here is done.

As a spraypainter it comes down 2 how much your willing 2 spend, which ever way u go spend the bigger $$$...the 1 thing i hate is when some1 gets a "cheap paint job" starts crying & having a sook about how its not top shelf work & they wonder y it didnt come out spot on so powdercoating or 2K (pac) pull the extra $$$$ out & ull b happy u spent the extra cash on the "more expensive paint job"...good luck, hope it comes up a treat _________________ 04 TRX 450r

powder coating comes down to preparation aswell it can also peel and chip easy and will also hide cracks in the frame where paint will crack id only worry about this if you spend alot of time in the air end of the day its a personal choice |

Just had mine powder coated. $250 from a mob in Brisbane. It metallic Purple. Not sure on wear and tear rate just yet as I ave only just go it all back together. Just one big thing is, make sure u have tapes to get powder coat out of thread. Ether that or I guess you could push a little bit of silicone into each hole.
Make sure u get all the crap out of the little nooks and crannies like where your a arms bolt in. Some times the guys doin it wont spend enough time on the prep and miss it. You then have powder coat over dirty grease blob. Not cool.
While mine was apart I ordered a stainless bolt kit off ebay USA. All bags labeled with what goes where and all allen key bolts.

Well I'm a bit out on my own here. I painted our banshee myself in 2-pack. It was my first attempt at 2-pack & it was dead easy & cost, from memmory, less than a couple of hundred bucks & is wearing much better than the factory powdercoat on any of our quads.
It was only my first attempt & it glossed off the gun no worries.
The choice of colours is endless.
I will be painting everything in future. A painter told me that you can brush paint now better finishes than powder coating gives. Personaly I believe him. Just compare your pool fence with some paint finishes you find.
I am going to 2-pack my new front fence. I know it will be cheaper than powdercoat & the colour will outlast powdercoat.
As for chipping on the quads. The banshee is holding up just fine.
Would you powdercoat a car part & if you did do you think it would either look as good or wear as well as the stuff your car is already painted with? _________________ 06 LTZ400
