I voted for dust proof and water proof.

this the current one

the ambo trailer is about 90% done now, will be using that one all the time after it is built, and the one above should be up for sale...

All of the above. Smile

We have some plans coming along so eventually we will have our trailer floating round the place. Very Happy

i voted supention and strong frame.. im sure no one wants to see the A frame of your trailer snaping off and you keep driving and your trailer dose a big dive into the road and flips with your bikes on ?? and this is not me pulling the piss out of yogie but the dust proff part of the trailer?? dont we all ride in the dirt ??

and i will send a pic of my trailer soon i have 3 quads on a 6x4 traler eek eek

Mate I only ride in the wet (well 90% of the time) And after a day in the saddle I want dry and warmth... Smile and to keep all my other gear clean and dry as possible. Smile

i think most of those features goes without saying.
i like to reverse engineer stuff based on what you want it to do.
ie. if you have a side opening trailer and you want the wall to be shade when its up you will have a minimum height it will have to be so you dont hit your head. the amount of bikes you want to put in it will determine the size. make room for storage, fuel and water etc. start with a good strong chassis and the rest will fall into place with your given requirements.

design plans ?
build it first from your head then draw a picture of the finished product and now you have plans!!!

aerodynamics are a big issue and can save you heaps in fuel and not kill your car if you get it right.

since the poll won't let me check all the circles i'll have to say ALL OF THE ABOVE
but that's for enclosed trailers. i've come to the conclusion that the best transporter for our needs is a pantech truck that i can side load with ramps and rear load with a hydraulic tailgate. (to be able to get the broken quads on)

Gotta be suspension & frame.
The most common part of a trailer to fail would have to be the axle, followed by the springs ( nearly always too short & snap when they have to bend) & then followed by the A-frame snapping where it joins the box or tray or whatever you prefer to call yours.
Those pissy short stiff springs most trailers have are a disaster waiting to happen. They are too short to allow movement & are all prone to snap when pushed too far. I travelled through the Tanami behind a mate who flipped his camper when the trailer snapped a spring on a pothole. The leading edge dug in & threw her on her lid.
Most trailers use the tyres as the main suspension. Just take a look how little movement there is between the body & axle when you follow one next time. Thats one of the reasons why axles fail as well.
You gotta run ute springs or coils that have the ability to float your load.
I wouldn't worry about even enclosing a trailer until you have the fundamentals of a reliable trailer in place.

A lot of good points to consider. I hope this helps diy designers.
The poll only allows 10 options - I had about 16... Rolls eyes

Just got some photos today of another one

sounds like mine, bet mines taken longer to build though.....

suspension and frame are definitely the most important aspects of a trailer.

no point in having a trailer that you can load 8 quads in if you cant tow it to from VIC to WA and back without it bending the axles.......

No way Petey!
I'm way slacker than you.
You've built a family faster than i've built half my trailer.

Round 2 Brad is locked in at Mount Gambier 18th May. Not too far for you to travel. See you there? The MX Calender for this year is up on the QRCV web site. Very Happy
