Guys,

Got the bike out for a ride today and the damn thing wouldn't start, first time ever....

The bike had last been ridden 6 days ago.

The battery had good charge but the starter was only just turning over. Then the starter relay (if that is the thing under the seat near the battery that the battery connects to?) started making a clicking noise and the starter motor would not turn over at all.

So, with my non-existent mechanical knowledge I am guessing that I need a new starter relay. Can anyone back this idea up or does someone have a different explanation?

Any help would or advice would be appreciated.

Also, do any of the forum suppliers sell these, and if so at what price shipped to Canberra?

Thanks
CJL

i would be checking and cleaning your battery terminals and tightening them up a bit make sure there is good contact....

it is a common prob on the 660's, give the relay a wiggle whilst trying to start it and if that helps i would say you have a loose connection.

pretty rare for a relay coil to loose its grunt, they usually either work or they dont, but for a 5 buck part it might be worth replacing anyway....

check your battery isn't on it's way out it might seem like it has enough charge but it takes a fair bit to start the big buggers... good luck, nothing is more of a pain then a bike that wont start

thank's for the advice guys. I have had to charge the battery a couple of times (after some f'wit left the ignition on????), and it's an original battery of 5 years of age so it may just be time for a newie.

I will charge it again over night and if that solves the problem then I'll get a new battery to avoid this happening again.

Thanks
CJL
