We are looking at buying outlaws for vjrose and myself huskygoat are arguing over the motors . Q are motors different single cam vrs twin cam?
Q would the 450 rev quicker or is just gearing ? Q is the 525 a stroker of the 450? Is KTM using the new enduro motor in theirs?

If someone could set us straight that would be great.

over size barrell and piston, thats it, both rev the same i think but the 525 has more torque, unless you need a 450 for class reasons i would go the 525 for sure.I got one in the irs outlaw and its awesome.

Looking at the pomy quad magazine... the 525 is 6mm bigger in the bore (as stated).
This should result in some loss of rev-ability. My guess is the extra grunt (torque) should make up for this in almost every situation.
These motors were designed as 510cc and then adapted for the US market where 450cc is a max.
So in Aus... as Dave says... go the 525.

The KTM & Polaris quads use exactly the same engine; this is a little diferent from the KTM bike engine as the quads have slightly bigger cases to hold more engine oil. They also have reverse instead of 6th gear.

KTM have recently upgraded their 450 & 525 bike engines but the quads get the old trusty version..........IMO a good thing.

The weight difference between the 450 & 525 Polaris quads is only due to the 525 having larger heavier tyres.

IMO the 525 is a much better choice as you will have more power; more reliably.........you still have to upgrade the 450 to get decent power where I would leave the 525 stock.

agreed leave it stock the ktm motors are built close to the edge as it is already have very tidy and flowed heads and make heaps of freindly power only thing i would do is change the air filter for one that clamps more reliably (the stock ones flow pretty good) put a muffler on it then suspension mods.
also pretty sure they are single cam four valve heads

IRS or straight? hmmmm
either are good but depends what you want it for , straight will probably be a better mx'er but IMO the IRS will be better for enduro's or trail riding. I love my IRS its super smooth in the rough stuff i also mx mine and it doesnt do too bad.

$2000 worth of mods

1 steering dampner (a good one)
2 HMF exhaust
3 air filter
4 nerfs with built in heel gaurds (stock heel gaurds hit tyres when fully compressing rear end)

a-arms and steering stems are also available

Luke beechey motorsports can help with most parts

Does anyone know the legal width of a racing quad? Just picked up the brochure and it says 1200mm of both straight and IRS. My current trailer is 1300 but I was going to get some A arms for the track. Lukes in the brochure cool

in my opinion if you were going to get the outlaw i would spend a little extra and get the ktm, i would also get the 525 over the 450 unless your class limited although some reports have said the 525 is almost to much engine but i beleive thiers never enough. the engines pretty much same as the dirtbike but some small changes like you guys said already, the price difference between the 450 and 525 is approx $500 more for the 525, irs or straight i personally would favour polaris irs if racing alot of trail apart from that id go the ktm straight due to the less weight and adaptability if you ever wanna oversize the axle as for mods not sure bout the polaris but the ktms got the frame, filter, chassis, suspension, tyres, bars, killswitch, reverse and lots more if your were gonna race get some nerfs and maybe the steering dampner and do some fine tunning with the carb and shocks and you should be really well off after that you need more than $2000g
