SA has got a big speedway date on the 9th Feb and we all hope there are some interstate riders keen for a go.
The CBS Cup will be a massive quads only night at the Gillman Speedway venue.
I thought I'd give you guys a run down after I just completed my first go at Gillman for this season.

It's not a big scary track, but at around 90kmh it is a slippery one. The 300m dolomite left hand turn is fairly flat. 4 lap heats take around 67 seconds. B grade is only around a second slower, but to a large degree that depends on when the last track grade or water cart run took place. Like I said it was my first run for about 12 months, and here's how it went for me...

It was fun trying to learn it all again with my Quad Squad spec 467cc engine. Adam Siemensma found a rebuild combination that nearly doubled the standard engines torque from very low in the rev range. This gave me huge amounts of grunt to pull out of the many bog down over slides i found myself battling with. With a solid reputation for making good of Yamaha race engines, Adams engineering efforts seem to work just as nicely for my Honda.

Mixed amongst a 3 way tie, I was lucky enough to make top 4 in the A grade final. I say lucky because all of the A grade heats were close racing, and some top riders missed out. The final was a blast. Big thanks to the other guys for the clean racing. I spose you could call it clean, even though I think we were all over the track trying not to hit each other. The solo heat before us was dusty as hell, so they had a quick whip round with the water cart which changed the surface a bit.

With a few heats to practice now behind me, I got a great launch off the line which saw me well in front for turn 1. Going into turn 2 I could already hear the pack pushing behind me. The track wasn't wet but man it was slippery. Inside and outside seemed identical. It was the only race that there did not seam to be a particular perfect line. Mel walked around the outside of me on his LTR somewhere in the middle of the race after I had one of my 'way too sideways' moments. It dosen't matter what the disipline those Suzukis seem to find there way around pretty well up the top. Mel had his share of itching and scratching out in front too, none of which I could capitalise on because I was too busy trying to keep 1 up on another TRX, Dan (our battle probably held us both up from having another crack at Mel). Nathan could not have been too far back because I could hear him on his old mans stock ring-ding banshee the whole time. For a young bloke, Nathan could borrow a quad out of the crowd and still be an A grade threat.
Mel sailed home on his Zook, Me 2nd, Dan 3rd, Nathan 4th.
(we won't make it so easy for you next time Mel).

If you like going sideways.
Start practicing, and hopefully we'll see you in Feb.

Hey Bullet,

Are there entry forms etc.. for the CBS Cup available yet?

For any one from Vic interested in making the trip over for this event the SA guys have plenty of room for people to stay. This venue is very close to Adelaide (as in only 15 Mins from the city) not out in BF nowhere. Good chance to get warmed up for the season

My place is only 5 blocks from the track.
Not much room but I can find you a bit of floor to crash on.
Corona drinkers need only apply!

with the huge response so far we are considering limiting rider numbers in each senior division to 15. get your entries in quick to guarantee a spot.

grading of riders will be done on the basis of past achievement

ie an average div2 rider that has taken part in speedway b4 at that level will remain a div 2 rider. (a low rating div 2 rider, ie me, may be relegated to the juniors lol)
a div 2 rider that has shown dominance in that category may get elevated to div 1 if numbers are required to do so

an expert or pro mx rider who has done little or no speedway will still be considered a div1 rider based on previous skills displayed

and most importantly there is a ladies div as well

junior 90/110 and 200/300 will hopefully be catered for with 50cc demo if scheduling permits

chances of having a jumbo junior class is minimal though as we will be hard pressed to fit all the events in and priority will go to junior juniors classes

it is difficult to predict the actual format and number of heats/classes etc until we know the full extent of nominations, so as mentioned, get your entries in soon

Sounds great Kev, but make sure there is some room for the interstaters,
We've gotta show em who's the boss.

How many Jumbo's are we allowed on the infield, interval entertainment?

as said i dont think there will be much time for jumbos as real juniors will take priority, and track prep interval time will probably see the finals of those junior events
speak to MB as after all as everyone knows,,,,, i'm just his birch

Smitty, just bring your mates over for the after party drinking.
May as well stick to what we're good at.
