I am looking to buy a Honda 250R from the States and am looking for some hints from people who have already done the deed....don't want to make the same mistakes...
Who to use for the transportation logistics?
How much etc....
Thanks

Give Dominic a PM (hustleratvracing). He brought a 250r in to Adelaide from the states a few years back.

Dont forget to get approval from the govt before it lands on australian soil. see department of transport and regional services ( i think it is www.dotars.com.au) .

Keep the reciepts for purchase as low as possible ( reduces the GST u may have to pay) .
Make sure the bike is clean (spotless, remove plastics and clean properly etc ) .

use sea freight , lower the handlebars and deflate tyres to reduce cubed weight, get it crated if possible as less likely to sustain damage.. Remove fuel and battery and u should be good to go.

Allow plenty of time as it takes a while .

Anything pre 1989 wont incur any DOTARS problems, application is like $50,models after 1990 require photo's of the machine in question, maufacturers specs etc and it starts to become an issue. As mentioned the machine must be spotless on arrival no dirt, grass seed, bugs etc or it will be quarantined and cleaned at your cost and not to mention time.

Do your home work ,Try and find a company who could fit it in there container for you and pay them for freight ,get another couple of guys togther and bring back your own container,Or do what most of the guys who import gear ,bring your own container back and fill it full of aftermarket products ,and when you sell it all the container and bike cost you nothing.free freight free bike .........down side you may need 50k+ to play.
You would be surprised how many people here in australia want to import somthing from america right now ,you just have to find them and charge them freight
