Hey Peoples just got released from hospital and though i would share my terrifying stocko story with ya's, was last Thursday i managed to finish work half a day early and thought about going for an arvo ride, so i rang me 2 other mates that normally head out with me but unfortunately they had to work the rest of the arvo, so already keen as for a ride i decided to go solo which now i know was a major mistake!!! so got out stocko (anna Bay end) bout 3:15 or so and started making my way down the beach tarring up the dunes were i wished with my new paddle tyres Smile...well it was around 4:30 by the time i got down to lavis lane end and thought i would head up the back dunes to the top for a break and look around as it was suck a nice day for a ride and looked like good spot ro rest, well i started my climb and soon after noticed some atv tracks heading up the same dune so i decided to follow them up bout 1m next to them, as it neared the top it took a slite right turn thus making the sun go right into my face which in turn made me put my head down so the visor on the helmet would catch the sun light thus in turn limiting my forward vision to 0.5-1m, but before i new what happened i was in mid air saying "Holly shiiiiittttttt" out loud!!! And then my world was nearly over, came crashing the 5-6m drop off from mid flight front first thus smashing my chest onto the handle bars in turn braking my lower sternum and cracking my top v sternum bone which is just lower then your throat wind pipe, also hair line cracking top ribs and severe bruising to my right lung on impacted which left me without the ability to breath which felt like 10min but really around 1min also breaking my right thumb , not being able to breath and my chest crushed to a pulp and thinking to my self not like this ,not now, this cant be how i go out, i finally managed to get what i can only described as breathing through a straw a very small straw of air into my lungs which was enough to sustain me for ther next few min until i managed to breath about 50% of normal enough to call for an ambulance, but bad reception was unable to get a clear connect so after 2 and a half hours of agony struggling to breath i was finally got 4x4 rescued and taken to hospital, now after being fit enough to leave hospital with a footy bag size of the most potent drugs ya can think of i am at home ready for the 6 to 8 weeks recovery time needed and countless hours of physio ahead to get me breathing properly again,my word for you all NEVER EVER ride alone even if ya think your the best on earth and always pay attention as my 3 seconds of sunlight disaster could of been avoided if only i applied the breaks instead of looking down, hope this story helps remind yous to take care on ya next trip, i have video of the aftermath on my helmet cam(which was turned of at the time of accident)which shows the dune i fell of and the destruction to my Banshee(unsure Of damaged cost yet and wont be fixing it till Christmas sometime) will post up when i get a chance, but must warm some image's may disturb viewers of banshee's......ride safe guys and gals

Wow Mick I would definitely be running out and getting a lotto ticket after escaping from one hell of a nasty spill. It sounds like it could have gone either way. You have certainly put forward a strong case for riding with a buddy at all times regardless. We can always replace our machines and their parts but it is a little different when it comes to ourselves. I hope the 'shee is not too banged up and that you and it have a speedy recovery. You will be back on the dunes in next to no time I am sure, and a little wiser no doubt. Take care.

Arron

hi mick
strange as it may sound ,, i know exactly how ya feel bloke ...
i only wish my acco was on the beach and not out the bush jumping doubles on a quad . ... my crash was a bit more bone breaking , like 8 ribs with multiple breaks , broken collar bone, elbow and 2fingers on me right hand plus a punctured lung not to mention all the other graizes, cuts and bruises . i remember everything up till the my front wheels went on to the double then from that time until i woke up in intensive care 5 days later , i remember nothing . its been 8weeks now since my brush with the quad boogie man ,mick. i still feel the pain mate . so i know what ya going through.
with any luck and me missus dont hide me back wheels i,ll be on the beach this weekend .

Glad to hear that you come off still alive, I myself go out for a short trail ride sometimes, there always seems to be another bike not half hour around though, accidents do happen but the important thing is that you live to play another day..

Ok guys i have hopefully managed to load the aftermath vid for yous,(which when recoding in all of my pain i dedicated to yous If ya can hear it) the sound is poor sorry have to turn it up, it shows the banshee busted up after the free fall and the huge crater that it and myself left on impact before coming to a rest were shown, ya cant see my tracks until end of vid from top of dune but you can see the 1's i was following, this helemt cam vid was taken bout 2 hours after my accident as i waited for help, and was dark before i left for hospital..thank god my injuries went worse i really do..my injuries:Broken sternum, Cracked Manubrium, hairline cracks to top left rib and major bruising to left top lung which resulted in blood clotting in my chest with a 20% chance of it reaching my brain if it dislodged from my vain, Plus a broken thumb.....

That's insane dude. You are very lucky. It would have hurt like crazy once the adrenaline died down.

I know what it's like but. That feeling of wondering what the "profanity removed" just happened. I fractured my skull and my cheek bone punctured a whole in my eye socket and out my face.

But I couldn't wait to get back on the bike. Do you recon you will get back in the saddle?
