after putting a fair bit of effort into trying to race mx at one of the local clubs up here ($50 worth of ads in the newspaper plus a whole heap of posters in the motorbike shops and alot of organising), i got a call earlier from the club president with some rather dissapointing news, the race stewart doesnt want quads racing (the official is borrowed from cairns mx club and we were gonna race at tully (bout 1.5-2 hours south of cairns)), i have approached cairns b4 about racing quads and they gave me the cold shoulder. the excuses i keep hearing are that the quads flatten out all the ruts that the motorbikes make. wtf do the 2 wheelers have to have ruts to race do they, bunch of poofters if ya ask me. it was also the final race meet of the season and they wouldnt let quads on for one day.

so pissed off!

has anyone else had this problem? how did you resolve this issue?

maybe i would be better off moving to southeast queensland, it seems they accept quads down there

It seems that each track is different in that some do and some don't allow quads. Basically I think it is ignorance on the part of the people that don't allow quads on tracks.
We are in the minority compared to 2 wheelers, and until there are enough quads around that we can affect the decision making (dollars are everything) on a tracks' up keep, there will be narrow minded people that won't let us ride on there tracks.

Gammie89 you need to show those whingers just how fast a quad can go, i have seen it many times before and as soon as a quad gets out there and starts carving up the 2 wheelers ( nice and safely though ) there attitude changes pretty quickly, sorry this probaly isnt any help but if you can get that to happen it will get them talking and possibly showing more interest in quads.

tully mx club (the club that gave me the flick) has a practice day tomorrow but after getting the phone call i dout i will be going to it anymore, at the moment if i want to race i got to travel 4-5 hours to get to the closest club that accepts quads (townsville area) and even then they dont race mx that often.

If you get a club to agree to let you race a quad on their track would you get the number to qualify as a class Confused
If you would have the numbers why not get everyone together and pool your resources and build your own track Confused Confused I have looked into something similar myself and the key is to get people that are serious and want the same thing as you. You could even try and recruit some 2 wheelers to get more people and make it easier.

We have the opposite , plenty of track time and not enough quad's to fill the grids. They Roma club Included the open quad class on the provisions we could get at least 6 quads to a club day , And thanx to a bunch of blokes in a radius of about 6 - 12 hours we have been able to maintain this level with our big gathering at Easter where we usually get around 15 .
Tell the Two wheelers to plough their corners and dig the rut deeper.
Are you coming down for a run in November Confused

i had 5 people lined up to race including myself, possibly more, i am sure once we did start racing we would get a whole lot more quads interested

we get this type of problem everywhere mate......
interesting that it's the steward and not the president,,,

firstly the steward is usually the only one getting paid from M.A. and he is basically discriminating against race license holders by not letting you race
call him and challenge him
if he pulls the safety card and it's his right blaa blaa...this is just nonsense and explain that you will put an official complaint into the governing body,,,,,M.A.....,where he will be held to account
quads and 2 wheelers race on the same day all over australia and he needs to accept that...........the backwards F&^$K.

persistance pays-off

Yeah we have the same dilema in Moranbah . Last years president was very pro quad and although he had some opposition his thoughts were being in such a small town that you need every member you can get.....
This years commitee is very anti quad and first order of business for the new mob was to ban quads from the track and refund all memberships paid. This move backfired to a certain extent in the loss of involvement from quite a few volunteers and some sponsors. I am now a member of the Clermont club 100kms from Moranbah and they are very pro quad, they have a fantastic complex ( natural terrain, flat track and moto-x ) they have a good membership of both quads and 2 wheelers who seem to all get along like a house on fire with no apparent disharmony. I think the bottom line is we need to stand up with numbers. If there are enough of us with a loud enough voice we will have to be noticed. As a person who is reasonably new to quad racing my biggest problem seems to be finding out with enough advanced warning on the racing available. For example I am thinking about contesting next years thundercross but have no idea who to speak to about it or where to find info (a lot of the club websites don't seem to be updated very regularly). I think the events page on this forum is working pretty well but could possibly be better utilised by clubs for getting their events more support from racers like myself.

yeah the president was happy to let us race, its just cairns mx club (where the stewart is from) and riders are anti quadists

tully is getting its own officials so it should be all good when that happens, for now just got to travel further to race

the whole process of goin through M.A. sounds quiet lengthy and i dont have a race license... yet

maybe the steward needs to take a lesson from the Colac club western Vic. theyve run quads and two wheel MX on the same days for a number of years now with great success. Everyone chips in and helps on club days, keeps more people involved. The Gippsland region in east Vic. also run quads and two wheel race days including juniors, seems to work for them too.

Man I thought us trail riders were doing it tuff finding places to ride but from what you describe its more frustrating having somewhere legit to go but not allowed to ride there.... Bummer!!

Just as a thought for the day and a sign of things to come- In the USA Quads out sell 2wheelers by 3 to 1 at the moment. Its the fastest growing sector in the motorcycle market right now (besides scooters!!)- just have a look at all the new makes and models now!!! (If only we can get bike shops to keep a good range of quad tyres and spares we might become a reality to these anti-quad jocks) Mad Mad

Out here in Roma we run club days with quads and 2 wheelers all the time. Even those who don't like quads much say they like seeing us race probably cause they think we are mad.

We don't seem to have much trouble from the club as a few of us get in and help out and are present during meetings and try to be positive about anything that goes on. We are a minority group and will make it hard to be accepted until numbers are big enough that quads can no longer be ignored.

I know that where I came from in Toowoomba they are very anti quad but I think thaty no one has actually got in and tried to make a mark on the club to get them to accept quads. They were unfortunately happy to take money from a few guys to be club members but made it hard for them to get track time.

Regards from the Madman.

I can honestly say it was fantastic for quad riders here (still a crappy track) it was just a change of committee to very narrow minded 2 wheel riders...
