i have a mate thats just bought a new raptor 700 and hes 1/2 keen on it but he has never raced a quad before (ether have I) and he just wants to watch first. i keep telling him to grow some balls and join in, but hes not convinced yet, i want to just show him some quad speedway but the only footage i got is from the monster truck show. has any 1 else got some good footage i could show him to get him to change his mind. thank you

Usually, anyone new to speedway will get a few pre-race laps on their first night.
Then you'd start in the 'B'Grade.
For the first few races all you have to do is hold the clutch for 1/4 of a second on the line and you can run rear of field and follow some more experienced lines.
It really does not take long to get the basics down pat.

Then once you get into it... finding a quad length or two (maybe 1/4 of a second) gets really challenging.

We'd all love to see you there Dangerman... but Speedway has no specific quad rules, so we race under the usual MA stuff.
4 stroke limits are 735cc two cylinder (I think).
Maybe talk to Kev about some sort of practice day demonstration permit?
dunno.

any event covered by an MSA/MA permit (except coaching) will require an appropriate licence and the machine must comply with the GCR's covered in the MA MOMS
key to abbreviations
MA = Motorcycling Australia
MSA = Motorcycling South Australia
GCR's = General Competition Rules
MOMS = Manual of Motorcycle Sport

The rules allow for a maximum of 700 cc 4 stroke or 550cc 2 stroke
plus 5% (currently under review)

these are for seniors only as there are many other age versus cc requirements for juniors

generally practice days allow a non licenced rider to purchase a one event licence and providing their machine meets scrutineering criteria as outlined in the moms, they can have a crack

racing is a little more complicated
if the race meeting is a closed to club meeting or interclub meeting (up to 3 clubs) a one event licence, or a club level licence can be used
if the meeting is an open meeting then a national licence is required
(this is a broad statement and doesn't include some technicalities relating to juniors, or running demonstration classes )

to my knowledge, speedway meetings run under an open permit and therefore require national licence holders for competition
any quad speedway event that would be different to this would be conducted by Quadriders sa in this state as we did last year in august
that was probably a 1 of as we now are included in some regular speedway venue calendars
