the crack is on the top on the rear side of where the shock goes through the swing arm, will post picks when the camera gets home

this is the second time it has happened, but only worse, the first time i got welded by an aero plane welding business (best in cairns), now the cracks have reapeared in the weld and they are bigger than before (and more than one also)

i heard this is a problem with the early model yfz swingarms (mine is 2004 model)

does anyone else get this problem?
if so what do you do to rectify it?

Yes, it was a bit of a problem in the early models. The only real fix is to get a new swingarm.

-Aftermarket
-OEM '05
-OEM 06-07 conversion

Yamaha changed the design of that part of the swing arm after the 04 ones kept cracking, most of the 04 swingarms were covered under warranty by Yamaha up until last year we were still getting warranty's on 04's. Changing to the 05 swinger will be the easiest option as you only need the swing arm and not the newer axle carrier and linkage that you would need for the 06/07 conversion.

the original crack was pretty much in the middle of where the weld is now

is that the problem spot?

Go see your local Yamaha dealer, ask there service dept. real nicely, if they will request a good will warranty from Yamaha Motor Australia, cause its a known isssue, you never know, they might look at it favourably . Got nothing to lose!
