Ah...there's nothing like a "vs" thread to get people argueing and turning against each other. These types of threads are the reason I stopped frequenting other forums. While they should be intended to give people from either side a chance to put forward the plusses of their chosen machine type, they invariably turn into a "pissing match" and become negative very quickly. At the end of the day, everybody chose their current rides because they felt that they were right for the type of riding they were doing or because they had a preference for the different "features" of that style or type of machine. (Unless you are me and chose the bike on looks alone laughing laughing ) The great thing about this forum is that it is not model or brand specific. While the information and feedback shared here comes from people of different backgrounds, riding styles and machines, we all ride atv's. Whose or which type is the best is probably something not worth banging heads over. My 2 cents.

How about we compare 2 & 4 strokes on a same capacity basis????

Eg. 250 two stroke v's 250 four stroke???

Then we'll see how good your 4 strokes are you wankers???

Everyone fails to factor in the capacity difference when comparing!!!!

How about a 500KX or CR v's a 500TT of the day huh???

How about a 350Raptor and a 350Banshee?????

Get over it it's personal preference.

They dont make many 2strokes anymore due to emission regulations (save the whales all that crap)

Who here can take the head off a 2stroke???? Lets do a poll on who can fix a 2stroke and who can fix a 4stroke????

In what way is what better?? This is a mute point with no actual outcome other than p!ssing people like me off Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

FOR THE RECORD I HAVE BOTH AND ALWAYS WILL AS THEY SUIT DIFFERENT PURPOSES!!! Mad Mad Mad Mad

F#@K YOUR ONE MINDED POLL

Hard to compare when more 4stroke models have ever been made than 2 strokes in Quads, 2 wheelers whatever.

Lets all enjoy our riding no matter what we ride and not divide us!!!!

Come riding with me and see how much dust you can suck in BEHIND the 4stroker.... see if you can tell what direction I have GONE GONE GONE !!
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I like both anyway,
I've had 2 strokes 50-500cc... 4 strokes used to be slack bikes....
As age kicks in further, I like the torque and the never ending power of a mighty 4.
As the laziness/tiredness kicks in I like to cruise ...
As we are humans and we make mistakes, the 4 stroke can pull me out of the s!@# half way up a never ending hill climb or up the rocky mountain sides when you have no other option but take it easy...
I love waiting up the top for the 2 strokes to try and climb the same hills....IF THEY MAKE IT !!!

not me i'm just the pit crew and financier, but my son rides as follows
speedway and flat track - banshee
mx, enduro and trail - yfz

if i could afford a 525 outlaw the yfz would be put out to greener pastures - (well at least for the enduro and trail stuff, maybe not mx)

point is - well it's not rocket science - some applications require 4 stroke whilst others 2 stroke

my vote = 1 for each

if you put 10k into a banshee and 10k into a yfz450 (motor performance) the 2 stroke would win hands down, the 4 stroke would probably be a bit more timid and ya wouldnt crap yourself every time you hit the throttle

2 stroke= fun

4 stroke= more usable power, better all-rounda

my 2 cents anyway

research and development? hmm i think you will find most manafactures are fazing em out coz of greenies nothing to do with researching as still gunna have emissions and seems the 2 smoke is worse then the 4 smoke by all reports and info i have read on all different forums and sites so why bother researching and making when epa are trying to get them banned? spend alot of money on something that will be illegal for ya to sell seems to me manafactures are using there head

has any-one recently gone to their capital city Boat Show, usually in Spring

.
BRP are putting a huge marketing effort into their 2 stroke technlogy E-Tec outboards
alot of the Pro's and workboats are changing over to them, best power to weight ratio, uses naff-all oil
if you can name another major manufacturer sports performance engine that has a 300 hours first service interval with no run-in time......ie:flat knackers from the first minute to 300 hours if you want...stated in their BRP's manual....i'd be surprised.
.
heard that the inland freshwater lakes in the USA that originally banned 2 stroke outboards some years back.....{which reportedly started this 2 stroke phase-out-mess}
have started letting them back-in
.
we live in hope

yer but if ya spent alot of money to make them legal...
Look at outboards, the E-Tec, thats a two stroke and its coming back.

quoted from the evenrude site
"CLEANER & QUIETER. With a fully stratified combustion system, Evinrude E-TEC outboards are designed to comply with 2006 EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) as well as tough 2006 EU (European Union) standards well into the future. E-TEC even meets the ultra-low 2008 CARB (California Air Resource Board) 3-Star emissions rating. For you, it simply means a cleaner boating environment: no smoke and dramatically lower carbon monoxide emissions.

With the E-TEC system, fuel is injected twice as fast as traditional direct injection engines and unburned fuel never reaches the exhaust port. This means the fuel charge never escapes the combustion chamber as it is burned and turned into pure power. E-TEC also senses when to change fuel delivery into the chamber, depending on engine needs, resulting in precision fuel flow and extreme fuel efficiency. The sealed fuel system also minimizes evaporative emissions. And finally, no more pre-mixing fuel and oil thanks to the E-TEC auto-lube oiling system.

And then there's the E-TEC signature sound. The exclusive E-TEC idle air bypass circuit, acoustically tuned air intake and exhaust silencers and state of the art acoustic foam lining combine for an incredibly quiet engine that hums like nothing else on the water."
and
" Power & Performance. With a fully stratified combustion system, Evinrude E-TEC offers unsurpassed fuel economy, especially at low speeds. At higher speeds, the Engine Management Module (EMM), making up to 8 million calculations per second, delivers precisely the right amount of fuel directly into the combustion chamber for every load and condition.

The lightweight design of the Evinrude E-TEC increases performance and boat handling, while its large displacement provides more horsepower and torque. This combination of light weight and high torque makes E-TEC accelerate faster and achieve higher top speeds than any other outboard engine in its class.
When you consider the fact that the 2-stroke Evinrude E-TEC produces a power stroke every revolution and it doesn't have the added complexity of belts, camshafts, valves, timing chains and oil pumps that add weight and rob power and torque it's easy to understand why 2>4."

i know this is outboards but just maybe, just maybe, the 2 stroke might get a second chance

2 stroke E-tec
Quote:

NO SCHEDULED DEALER MAINTENANCE FOR 3 YEARS or 300 HOURS.
ZERO BREAK-IN PERIOD
NO COSTLY OIL CHANGES
USES UP TO 30-75% LESS OIL THAN COMPETITIVE TECHNOLOGIES

2 strokes are still popular in Ski Sleds also

its not that 4 strokes rule the mx scene its that they are being made to. the 2 stroke just cant meet the pollution laws that the USA has for production bikes. so everything is being phased to 4 strokes. it wont be to long and in the USA you wont be able to even buy a 2 stroke lawn mower or whipper snipper.

what about turbo 4 strokes?
you still get the hard hit of the 2 stroke but with heaps of power, and drivability of a 4 stroke

has anyone ever put a stock banshee motor in a stock yfz frame and then raced a stock yfz, who would win then? even a 250r in a 450r frame then raced another 450r?
