Well the shocks in my 04 YFZ450 are just about had it. They are leaking (rooted seals i think), screeching when they move and are very very soft.
I was wondering if it is worth getting them redone, but changing to a better spring and valves or just buying aftermarket suspension?

Only problem is I don't have a huge amount of money to spend so i was thinking that getting them redone would be better for my situation. But i'm not sure how much either would cost.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Riz

Hey mate I'm in a similar situation except my shocks are now where near as bad as yours. The blurb below was the reply I got from ATV Race Technology. Everything comes down to money as usual. Hope this helps.

James

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We only do the rear rebuilds on the YFZ. The trouble with the YFZ front shocks is that they aren't an ideal platform to work from. They could do with more stroke, up and down. By the time we put the Dual rate spring on and the bike settles it doesn’t leave enough travel for it to properly do its job.

Another problem is that the compression adjustment makes no noticeable difference on the YFZ shocks.

So, having said all that, its a better investment to get some entry level aftermarket shocks that have better materials, more travel, better tunability and longer service life all for around the price of setting up the stockers. Not too mention that the entry level shocks can be upgraded to a higher spec with adjustment and external reservoirs at any service interval.

The stadium shocks are $1100 for the front for the Traditional model with rebound and preload adjustment and multirate springs, but no reservoirs or compression adjustment.

The prices on all front rebuild for front shocks is $1000 and the rear is $650, packages can be worked out if both are done at the same time or if a set of front shocks are purchased and the rear is rebuilt.

Hey Guys,

we can service your front shocks with new oil and gas and fit new seals and bushes to bring them back to new condition for around $250 a pair

thanks
Adam

Thanks for the input guys.

I have decided to wait till i have some money and get a set of Elka or Ohlins suspension.

Right now I'm trying to convince the parents that their money is better off spent on suspension for the Quad than on landscaping..... Razz

Well I lost. Parents wasted their money on shrubs. Oh well, if I stay away from the Beer for about 2 months I should have enough for a sexy new set of Elkas. LOL I'm not really an alcoholic......I hope Neutral
