Hello, just wondering what footware quaders wear riding?
I tried some typical dirtbike boots that were aparently quite flexable and I can't imagine being able to use them. while sitting on my quad, I couldn't even press the rear break leaver... Laughing

In pics it seems you guys that race use the dirtbike boots but is their a particular brand or flexible sort of boot you're using?

I know this might seem particularly dumb question but thanks for your answeres. And yer, I called an ATV store, (no names), and they couldn't really answer properly, just a lot of ummmm and errrr and you'll have to try a few things.... Hrm

If you take note from our new Aussie ATV mag it seems they are endorsing joggers, plenty of flexibility Hrm
Once your MX boots are worn in you will find that they will be fine.

Get a set of oneal boots. The ones that are a bit cheaper are good and get soft really quikly. They have less plastic and what not on then so they get soft quikly.

if you buy a new set rub dubbin or boot condition around ankle area and also put boots on and do squats in them helps break them in faster

mate when i bought my quad i asked the same question. was told that alpinestar tech 6 boots were the best as they have hinge system around the ankle or something that helps with flexability. but they were about
$650 i think. i got some cheaper oneals and they go alright after some use

Ive always used stiff boots so ive come to get sed to and like them. Fox is what I used to use but I just got a pair of answer racing boots, they are not as expensive as most brands.

So after a bit of use they do become quite flexible eh. Thanks. I thought perhaps there might be particular boots for quading...

Yep, most boots will soften after a few rides. If you want to make them really soft you can spray a light mist of WD-40 on the leather around the ankle area of the boot, if you do that a few times oil soaks in a softens the material.

I just got a set of Gaerne SG10's (thanks Smitty) and after riding in FOX trackers for the last 6 years the Gaernes are heaps more comforable and flexible than the Fox boots were after all that time. The Gaernes have a hinge at the ankle so there's no worries there but they have a bit too much plastic shielding on them esp around the back.

Trials boots are probably the best boot you could wear on a quad. No heel with a grippy sole, comfortable to walk in and even better to ride in.
Great movement from new, once you try em you won't go back.

The trail boots sound the go. Thanks heaps for the link! But problem is my $$ are too low at the moment and so I got a pair of Gaerne somethings for $200.00. Leather boots but still mega stiff. I can't use the back break on the quad while sitting down. And changing gears is almost impossible Razz

I think I'll soak them in a pot of WD40 for a few days. Maybe beat them with a large hammer for a bit. And then after that, wear my sneakers anyway Hrm

cheers,
ps: wish I got the trial boots.

Hey Ash,

Might sound stupid but get in the shower with your boots on. It will soften them up in no time.

I've bought the O'Neil type couple of weeks ago, though have yet to actually use them.

Not worried that they are so stiff I end up walking like a robot, but I could'nt get my foot under the gear lever to change up, then when moved the lever around the spline, I found it difficult to get my foot high enough to change down.

So I'm presently wearing leather steelcap work type boots.

May just be me though, I had a ride on Honda TRX450 (I think it was, whatever, it was low, wide and fast) he wore boots, but I could'nt get my foot under his gear lever easily and kept missing upchanges, though he had no issues at all wearing full boots.

Don't soak them in water, that will immediately cause the stitching to begin rotting, only a rough bastard like cowman would do that. Instead get some leather waterproofing spray and give them heaps. When you (gently, if you want them last) wash them after riding spray them again with waterproofing spray and keep doing that everytime you ride and they will last a long long time.
At $430.00 Alpine Star trials boots are not as dear as others, look at it this way, you won't go through many pairs of boots in a lifetime riding quads so their well worth it. You won't find a more comfortable bike boot to ride in. When your current boots wear out give em a try.

I did it (soaked them) to a cheap pair of boot that were stiff as a board when i got them it never hurt the stitching one bit they lasted 2 years and it was the sole that chewed out before the stitching rotted

Cheers Yogie!!! I think I'll have to get those. First got to return the Gaerns I bought, I know it's harsh to the retailer but at least it's a major retailer (MCA Syd). The boots are in mint, haven't worn them riding yet, and no creases in them. Lucky I was out of WD40 Razz

Thanks for all the info guys.

Hi.

I had Fox trackers, they were ok. I now have a set AXO short boots. They cover your ankle. not a full size boot. Very light and comfortable. perfect for a quad

OXTAR TCX PRO, I really rate these boots. They have a comfy little inner booty thingy. There is a guy in Darwin NT that has been selling them for $350. They have been $600-$650 everywhere else in the NT.

Let me know if you want his details. He also sells other stuff on the cheap too.

Cheers Noddy
