Just wanted to find out everyones techniques on how to pull the front tyres off the ground. Techinques, Pics, videos, distances, records, etc...
Im struggling to keep the nose of my DS up in the air and even harder to pick it, so im just clutching 2nd gear and i try to balance it but 2nd gear runs out too soon and the nose is back on the floor, im averaging 30-40metres. |

i got pics,with my dad he go for a fair while with his foot in the rear grab bar or just with his knee on the seat,i can go for probable atleast 30-40 metres sitting down,easiest way to go for longer knee on the seat

| pretty sure there is a how to wheelie in the latest or the second latest aussie atv action mag ,, read that if still no good get a lighter bike ,, na just kidding try doin wheelies while going up a hill but remember to keep your foot on the break cause when your bike goes over to far the break is all that will stop you from having a big heavy bombadier on ya |

I havent got the balls to put my knee on seat, im scarred if it overturns on me, i usually do it sitting down, with my foot over the brake pedal ready.
Should i try to gear to 3rd while in the air or will the bike overturn, cause at the moment im getting the front tyres really high and the slightest mistake ill be sitting on my ass with 200+ kilos of bike on top of me. |

I prob find the best angle is around 60 degrees. Try in 2nd, standing up push the front down, and as your pulling back off give it some throttle. Should lift the front end up. Just balance with the throttle and brake to hold it up. Takes some time. I'm still strugglin, but thats all the advice i can give. all you need to do is find the balance point man once you got that its simple just pop it up in 5th and sit there...... i think my record was 4.5 km then i ran outta beach |

when u get good, start in a side wheelie then pop the front up onto one back wheel then transfer into normal wheelie. Looks speccy but not that hard in practice. sand is certainly best.
If you're only going slow 1st or 2nd and you do go to far back 90% of the time the grab bar will stop the bike coming back on you if you keep hangin on. Also when ur trying to grab another gear the front will drop not come up further. getting smooth changes is the hard part. On my banshee I used to prefer popping it up from 3rd or 4th.
Rod Jenna is the man to ask he can wheelie forever at walking pace. I reckon the slower u go the harder it is. _________________ Proud Member of QuadridersSA

Just came back from riding today, i didnt take my DS, but we took my cousins YFZ and my mates banshee.
I tried a couple of wheelies of the yfz450, from a roll start and they were pretty hard because the thing had so much power(61hp) and it was touchy on the throttle. So i gave up on the YFZ and i jumped on the shee, i had a couple of practice goes. I started dumping the clutch in second from standstill, and for a couple of goes they were going pretty sweet, a good 35m+, than i took it one last time and i almost forgot i was on the banshee, i thought i was on my DS, so i gave it really hard while in the air, next thing i knew i was scraping that rear grab bar, so tapped the brakes and went down, luckily the grab bar stopped me, or i wouldve been on my ass. The bar took a good scraping though.
I think im improving on my wheelies, just gotta improve my control over the throttle and brake while im in the air.
Anyone else go for a ride this weekend |

| i find 4th gear is the best on the honda it pops us easy az. 5th is a bit hard but if u use a bit of a bump u can pop it easy then its just a matter of findin that balance point. it just takes practice. |

Try this freaky idea to best learn where the balance point is (your mates will get a laugh too).
Get a few mates to lift the front end until they have the bike balanced on the rear wheels. Then while they are holding it, slowly get on board from the back. While in this stationary wheely position just on of your mates should be able to steady the quad with one hand. Slide around on the seat a bit and you'll feel the angle change. try to remember these angles as these are neutral balance points.
Now go and practice your wheelies again and see if you can get the same angle while cruising at even throttle.
Like Bjorn said, if you can master them really slow you've nailed it. Plus if you do fall back, the quad will usually just stand there on the grab bar.
On my TRX90 I can sometimes mono to a stop, hold it for a few seconds, then cruise away again. Buggered if I can do that on my 450 though. Auto clutch bikes are much easier. Rod Jenner can do this on a 450 Yam. _________________ Can-Am X Team

It's all about throttle and brake control. It's actully a exelent training tool and I do it all the time when i'm out at the track and am sick of riding, along with riding on the side two wheels.
Don't stat from a standstill quickest way to flip it. Start in about 3rd gear at cruising pace and then bring the front up higher an higher each time untill you have to start using the rear break to stop you flipping. I use about 70% throttle 30% break when i'm doing it. Practice makes perfect _________________ Smitty |

The bomber is too heavy to lift in 3rd, i usually take in 2nd from standstill and try to go as slow as i can.
As for BULLETS idea, i liked that one, im gonna try this weekend if its not rainning. |
