Has anyone got a scary fast power now unit on their carby intake.I saw it in last months edition of dirt wheels on their project z400 and and it was used instead of rejetting after fitting an after market pipe.Sounds a bit dodgey but i can understand how it could work but is it a substitution for rejetting or a short lived solution before an engine lean meltdown.
What do you guys reckon?

Hi.
I've put a bit of thought into these things myself.
I reckon they would have to work in providing a more stable air stream over the main jet at anything up to 3/4 throttle. So throttle response on the way through part throttle should be improved.

But I cant see how they would change mixtures at all. Maybe if you were just on the lean side and falling in a little lean hole type flat spot on acceleration, scary fast might just hide that problem a bit.

Like I think you're thinking... This can't be a good thing. It would mean you are successfully running right on the edge of lean. And maybe not a good idea if you are holding it pinned, ripping down the beach on a hot day.

the power now is defiatly not a substitution for re-jetting after any mods, where they may have got away with it is that the stock Z400 jetting isn't that far lean when you fit an aftermarket slip on anyway so not much chance of a lean mixture melt down.

I've used these in bikes & quads to great effect (on the older yam 400-426 motors it was easy to make them yourself, not so much on the newer carbs though)

They are way more effective on a flat slide carb than on the round slide vacuum type on the suzi 400 but will still be a noticable difference, where you'll really feel the difference in when you load the engine up in that throttle range (especially low speed manouvering) that your throttle response is much cleaner and you'll be less likely to stall.

Thanks Pete

I reckon I should wack one on my 04 t-rex 450.

Throttle response can get a bit blubbery if I get a bit stabby on the throttle when trying to get out of tight creek beds and that sort of low rev stuff.

what did you make yours out of.
