I have just read an article in the latest edition of ATV action magazine. (dont have a website to post the article in this thread)
This article lists the different groups/councils/associations that have taken charge of the sand dunes etc. i am totaly dissapointed to read that it is now against the law to the ride on the dunes as all these different tax payer money funded groups have outlawed it. the article explains that they have allocated a section of the sand which is about 10km long for riders to use, however it is only 200metres wide. The area in which this has been approved for riders is in a section popular for fishermen. Therefore I could only imagine how long it will take before conflict will arise between fishermen and riders.
The stockton sand dunes will now be known as Worimi Conservation lands (WCL). The follwoing groups each have a finger in the pie also.
- national parks and wildlife
- Worimi local Aboriginal land council
- New South Wales Government
- The Department of Environment and Conservation
- Port stephens council Etc
As this land is maintaned by tax payers money, and we are tax payers, could we do anything in regards to starting our own association (if there is not one), or starting a petition to present to someone in the government that could help us.
Come on people lets stand and be heard. Someone help me or give me an idea as i have never done something like this before and would not know where to start. I go to stockton twice a month and would hate to have this privilege taken away from me. |

Are you sure, i have been going there for the past 2 years and have never known of a rule or restriction to ride on the dunes. the recreational rego states i have to ride in designated areas. i have never seen a sign or been informed of these areas. I assumed they meant i cant ride on public roads and near sand mines and also anna bay near the flags.
have you got anything in writing as i would love to read it. |

Here's the previous conditions when ran by Port Stephens Council.

There is also a sign at the entrance on the Anna Bay side that also shows the designated areas.
Like Rappy said, we were never legally allowed to ride on the dunes, but the Rangers never bothered to enforce that particular rule. It will be interesting to see if NPWS will? Guess we'll find out June long weekend. _________________ Don't close your eyes during the crash, you'll miss the best part |

It has always been the regulation ride area. It was never enforced as it was 1 of the most ludacriss rules I have ever seen. There is a copy of it available from Port Stephens Council.
The latest from the rangers up here is that as long as people don't do ridiculous things in the dunes nothing will change as we know it.
As for your other question as to what can we do, the only way to get any sort of hearing with the 'powers to be' is the form an official organisation or affiliated club. Then you will have a bit of power to get a hearing. _________________ If it's not upside down, you're not trying hard enough!

in short: Do your own thing, don't go around roosting campers and take it easy in camping areas and they will leave you alone(hopefully). |

I rode there last fiday and again this coming sunday..
When we spoke with the staff at the servo they said there is a big crackdown on un rego'ed bikes and quads and also the the regular beach user permits will be replace by National Parks ones
There is only a small strip of sand that was ever marked as "rec use" but that has never been enforced...
Like the others said...behave yourself and we all still get to play..
Idoits tearing up and down larvis lane and infront of other will just stuff it for everyone.. |

I can't work out why four wheel drives are allowed to go in the dunes all the way up to the Anna Bay end of the beach and recreational vehicles are only permitted in the designated R/V area.
A 2 tonne 4wd is more likely to "damage the sand " than a 200kg quad.
And as for the area they set aside for us to ride in ,its the main 4wd access track I think there could be a few safety issues there.. _________________ If a Quad is a Quad Bike,

IN my opion
The only way for us to allowed to ride up there for future years is to have a say and let our options be heard.
That way any new ruleings behind closed doors we will no about it.
Hulk GREENHUMAN on here has done exactly what we need to do .
THis all happen out at redhead dunes many years ago,as far as I no he is on the commitee out there to stop any ilegal use of the land (ie developers building houses)
If we dont have a voice at council or national parks meeting we will not be heard
and with in 10 years from now ,it will be walking trails only (national parks do not like anything that destroys natural ceranity) _________________ OH "profanity removed" I SAID "profanity removed".......OH "profanity removed" I SAID "profanity removed" |
