 |
|
Guys,
I went riding today, can hear loud noises coming from inside the engine or gearbox. I loud knocking noise....
It starts and runs fine, it revs up no problem.
However when i put it in gear and let out the clutch slowly it rattles inside, I have no idea what could be wrong, it changes gears fine.
It was full of new oil and full of coolant !
Any hints on what to look at ?
Sounds like bad trouble to me, but strange it still functions fine. |

could be anything i wouldnt be riding it or starting it. from all reports ive heard from yamaha mechanics the gearboxes are the weak link in raptors once you start hotting them up. _________________ METAL IS WHATS ITS ABOUT

Well did not think that I hotted it up too much to make much of a difference...
it does suck though, pisses me right off...
Just got it right, I hope someone has an idea of what it could be, I do not want to take it back to a bike shop...
I don't trust them, two of my mates and I have had bad work done from reputible shops... |

thats a bit "profanity removed".
i have a yamaha dealer here in adelaide thats "profanity removed" great help me out heaps with info over the phone when i rebuilt motor maintain the bike for me tuned it etcetcetc.
surely you have a decent yamaha dealer where you are mate.
what i ment was they say that usually when you put a bigger piston (high comp) style it loads up the starter clutch and generally the gearboxes are the first to go.
lets face it though mate all we realy do is get on these things and beat the living bejesus out of them sometimes thing "profanity removed" up. BUT YOUR RIGHT IT DOES SUCK ASS!!
hope its nothing to major for ya. _________________ METAL IS WHATS ITS ABOUT

My 01 660 crapped itself in a terminal way as well - it took a tooth off 4th gear - this was OK until that tooth went out into the clutch area and chewed chunks out of the clutch basket and then fed itself into the primary drive gears - that made a real big sound!
I built a 686 with Carillo rod , WEB cam and spring kit , 05 model gear box complete and new oil pump , clutch basket etc.......
If you require any 01 model gears I have an almost complete set here. _________________ Even if you can't use the power you have....always look for more ...it's the only acceptable reason for not winning! |

Well thanks guys, it is with explosiveracing now.
I had a few guys listen to it, could not work it out...
Explosive has pulled it down, no real problems found...damn it...
Decided why it is down to rebuild it to get some more power whilst I am paying for the labour anyway.
Now going a 719 stroker, stroker crank and rod kit, stage 2 cam, 39mm FCR's, head porting, new bearings and gaskets, gears looked fine and clutch looks fine..
Just waiting on my parts to arrive and hope good ole Zak will do the job well like he always does....Leaving it to the magician now to weave his wand...
Just hope it performs well after all of this, will keep ya all posted...
At least I know where some spare parts are....cheers |
