A message from Justin Hunt - Event Organiser of the 2014 Australasian Safari being held in WA from 19 to 27 September 2014.
STATEMENT FROM THE EVENT DIRECTOR
The last one - Safari 2014
After seven years in Western Australia, it’s with a heavy heart that we wish to advise the 2014 Australasian Safari will be the last one held in Western Australia.
My company Australian Safari Pty Ltd has a contract with Tourism Western Australia. The contract contains the option for TWA to extend the current agreement for a further three years (2015 to 2017). TWA has declined to take up this option in the current climate.
In these tough economic conditions, it is fair to say we have done a very good job running an international level motorsport event. However, the anticipated growth in competitor numbers and external commercial support has not been realised.
After working very hard for a number of years, we haven’t been able to significantly increase the size and media impact of the event to justify the investment.
Tourism Western Australia has been a wonderful partner. Whilst I am devastated, I respect their decision and give my commitment to my stakeholders, sponsors and the competitors that Safari 2014 will be an amazing experience.
I would like to thank my team in my office, the 2014 Organising Committee and our volunteer officials who have been so supportive of our ambitions.
The 2014 Australasian Safari will run as planned and will be a celebration of a motorsport icon that it truly is.
Regards
Justin Hunt

Good luck to all who take part in this years event. Hopefully it won't be the last one.
I won't even be able to get to the parade on Friday night - darn it that's two years in a row - not that anyone gives a rats....
Anyhow good luck Heath (quad) Allen/Darren (SxS) and MAX (two wheels) _________________ Cheers,

Entries.......
90 Legend Quad Services Heath Young WA KTM 690 Rally 2011 Q1.2
91 Iuliano Motorsports John Iuliano WA Polaris Scrambler 2014 Q1.3
94 Team Organic John Maragozidis SA MMR Interceptor 2010 Q1.2
98 Victory Racing Vitorrio Bonacci VIC Can Am DS 650X 2005 Q1.2
99 Giles Racing Jarrad Giles WA Kawasaki KFX450R 2011 Q1.1
Small but strong field. Heath Yound and John Maragozidis will resume their fight from last year.
John Iuliano on a Polaris Scrambler......very interested in how the Scrambler goes. Victor Bonacci on a 10 year old DS650; Victor hasn't raced for a while but his Can-Am is just about bullet proof and Victor is a past MX & Finke competitor. Jarrad Giles on a KFX450R, glad someone had both entered the big race on a Kwaka and a 450 to boot.
Mick47 is on hand doing his video thing, PeteW is there supporting Cowchaser on his half quad.
Only the Prologue but Heath on fire over 40 seconds in front of the field, that would have put him in 5th in the bikes. 3 stages totalling over 280k's tomorrow.
Day 1 was a bit wierd as their was a communications blackout and no results were posted. Victor on the DS650 had issues first up with the rest of the guys through with no real worries.
SS1 is complete and I'm glad to say everyone is on track and only seperated by 20min.
John Maggs has closed the gap to Heath slightly. Victor seems to have fixed his head gasket issue on the big DS and Jarrad has a new exhaust for his KFX.
John Maggs & Heath Young have been separated by just minutes throughout the entire race. After winning SS1 by only 40s Heath has dropped off the timing sheet for SS2.
