Hi all. I'm weighing up my options and considering either doing up my banshee or buying another bike and I came across the can am site and saw the new bike. Wow. It looks good. Does anyone have a new one or experience with one?
Ive always had Yamaha so I'm not sure what id be in for if I bought one. They look expensive. Am I right or wrong? _________________ "Back up Bug!" |

The can-ams are not the cheapest initial purchase with a retail around $14,000.
But after that all you need is a $50 kill switch. Everything else is top shelf standard and you don't have to spend any more.
They are very light weight, good ergonomics and very easy to get confident on.
I race a 2014 model with the Standard Fox Shocks and the upgraded wiring loom. I'm not sure what the improvements are for the 2015 models.
Can-am upgrade little bits and pieces every year and some of them are hard to spot (like new stronger main crankshaft bearings etc).
There are a bunch of 2015's on there way to Aus now that should be on dealer floors in 6 - 8 weeks.
Happy to help with set up specs if you go that way. _________________ Can-Am X Team

Thanks so much for your response. I did a bit of Googling and read up a bit on the pink wire. can you please tell me more about the wiring loom set up you've got. I'm now in the market for another bike and I'm considering a can am or a yfz 450. I dont race but I do have a few riders that id love to shame. choosing the right weapon is so hard. Theres so much choice. _________________ "Back up Bug!" |

The earlier models had two fuel maps and snipping the pink wire switched maps to correct the fueling for those who removed the airbox lid and went to a higher flow exhaust.
The snip gave more bottom end and particularly improved throttle response.
On the dyno there is just about no difference in top end power.
2012 onward they don't have a 'pink wire' to cut and they only run the one map in the ECU.
There are a few different 'race wiring looms' around. A factory BRP one and others. These half replacement looms just simplify the electrics and delete most of the handlebar switch blocks, lighting and accessory electricals.
Simple is best for racing.
My 2014 races with its standard wiring loom, but it has changed in the latest models with different relays in a different location down near the RH top A-arm in a sealed compartment. _________________ Can-Am X Team
