 |

Hi everyone,
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is working to promote the safe use of quad bikes and is asking for your help.
Complete this survey (https://consultation.accc.gov.au/product-safety/quad-bike-safety-video-survey) to have your say on what quad bike safety video the ACCC should produce.
Thanks |

"For those less enlightened, and so uptight about us, the recreational riders, I'll offer the following:
We are over 80% of the actual users, regardless of what figures are touted as correct, we are the 4 out of 5 riders out there.
We do not have a governing body.
We do not have a govt that gets this. (Except Tassie. They've got it wired.)
Yet, despite us being a self regulated, dis organised, bunch of over 200 thousand across the country, having few places to legally ride, somehow we wear enclosed footwear, DOT approved helmets, appropriate riding apparel and other PPE, all by ourselves.
We cover more disciplines of our sport than most critics can comprehend.
We maintain our bikes, including tyre pressures.
We upgrade our bikes with bits to make them go, stop and turn better.
In short, we know more about us than any one or any group out there.
So maybe "they" should ask instead of telling! "
So, this survey is our chance. Don't care if it's brand name, no name, farm, trail or racing, please take the 5 to 15 minutes to fill this out.

To the ACCC, Thank you.
P.S. Any chance of doing something about fuel prices? Like maybe petitioning the Federal Government to scrap the world parity fuel levi of 38cpl? _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

while I filled out the survey and told them that we know better than they ever will. I feel they will get the results and turn it into what they have already decided to do and say look they agreed with us. mind you rec riders and dumb farmers are a worlds apart. some just die quicker than others. _________________ 2005 KFX700

I'm really hoping they the ACCC will answer that.........
And please keep the duopoly out of something ACCC!
Those big Government wheels rarely turn quickly, and I suspect that vested and concerned groups have lobbied a case that the bikes can, and do, kill. And it's taken a little while to get to this stage.
That people, including kids, die is true. And that happens in a lot more ways than quad bikes have gotten attention for. The numbers are blown out of proportion, but dead is dead.
We all know that safety warnings and instructional literature and video is out there, but the saying goes, that "you might be able to lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink."
But if they can say we told you so, then the ACCC has filled that part of their charter. If it saves one life, we'll never know where the money went.
Still decent to ask us though, and what Yogie said. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

DONE.
Thanks for the opportunity. I believe some people within the quad community could be very helpful with what you want to achieve. _________________ Cheers,

Hi everyone. Just wanted to say we’ve had a great response to our quad bike safety video survey and, no doubt, much of that is due to this forum and community. So thanks for all your help!
The survey closes tomorrow (Thursday, 20 Feb) so if you haven’t had a chance yet but intend to complete the survey you’d best get in soon.
To answer your question, priesty, the ACCC has a national product safety responsibility including managing the Product Safety Australia website (www.productsafety.gov.au). We are currently developing an education campaign to raise consumer awareness about quad bike safety, and we are seeking the input of OZ ATV members to help us make the campaign as effective as possible. |

We would obviously not like to see atv's, both 3 and 4 wheeled portrayed in bad light. I do believe that both 3 and 4 wheeled atv's are safe products as long as they are used safely. I think the fault lies with the operator and not the product so as long as the campaigns focus on safe use rather than blanketly saying they are dangerous then I'm happy.
Cars are probably more dangerous when not operated correctly so there are safety precautions in place ie licensing and registration.
Just a perspective. |

I have also completed the survey.
While my previous comments may have been a little tongue in cheek, I do believe, like many others in our community, that quad bike safety concerns would be best addressed by a national licensing & registration scheme, which would be best left to the various road transport authorities.
However I wish you luck with your efforts to raise safety awareness. I suspect you may already be sensing that the sentiment here is less about product safety & more about personal safety, being the product of correct training & lengthy experience, the safety of the products themselves is never in question on these pages. Except for some questionable Chinese imports perhaps. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

 |
|
Hi everyone. Yesterday, the ACCC launched its national campaign on quad bike safety.
The campaign includes a safety video, available via YouTube: http://youtu.be/cwEXpI11dsk
There is also a campaign page with tips on how to use quad bikes safely: www.productsafety.gov.au/quadbikes
The ACCC thanks all of you who participated in the initial concept testing of the video. _________________ Patrick Jackson
