So Dakar started last night with all the hoopla that South America could muster.
HRC & Yamaha are determined to take it from KTM. Robby Gordon turned up with a "mini me" Hummer and still jumped the start podium. The Minis are still favorites and in the Quads the field is wide open; Patronelli is still a tool.

Just strap the tank on. #293 Matyas Somfai had carb/tank problems, tried fuel in a Camelback then finally strapped one of his tanks to his body to get the gravity feed -- all while towing #262 as far as he could. It was too much for his quad and finally had to leave #262 Alexis Hernandez.

Rafał Sonik, Sebastian Husseini and Sergio Lafuente took a wrong turn towards km 265 of today's special. They rode down a northward track that had already caused mayhem among the motorcycles. Ignacio Casale avoided this mistake but made a different one a short while late by going too far south.
