Talks are in progress re staging this event in 2014, lots of things to be finalised , but Easter weekend may be considered. Run under a similar format to 2012. What are peoples thoughts on this. The previous topic [in 2012] explains a lot for those that want to get an idea of what it was. Remembering we need to get [numbers of] bikes and quads to this event.

Hey Hook,

It'll be great to see another event at Iron Pot !!!
About trying to get numbers is always a difficult one.
I have 2 trains of thought.....

With it being a 4 day long weekend people riding will want to get value for their money as regards hours on the bike.
The format worked well last time as a 3 day event [horses, bikes, quads]
However most people would like 2 days of riding with a day of travelling at each end of the weekend.
3 to 4 hrs riding for a whole long weekend may not be enough.

The other idea maybe to run it as a trail ride......
The weekend trail rides at Woodenbong/Urbanville run by Ray Bucanan are always very successful and are capped at 500 riders of which a lot of people who are late with their entries or turn up on the day often miss out.
He has 3 main trails and a smaller junior novice/peewee/50cc quad track.
The senior bike and senior quad tracks are run on the 1st day then switched on the next day to offer variety and the other track is for junior riders.
The Friday could be a sign on and trail ride day with a start time of 10am till
4pm.
Saturday could be an enduro cross event incorporating the thundercross track and a couple of kms of trail with 2 or 3 laps of the course per class and 2 motos per class for the day.
Presentation Sat. night.
Sunday becomes the alt. trail day.
Monday pack up and departure.

Anyway just a couple of thoughts;
Whatever you need just ask and we'll be there to help.
Thanks Scotty.

Yep , hearing you, tossed this around a hundred times last year, and as at presentation last year open to suggestions and or constructive criticism. You like all of us want to ride, but one of the comments was, "oh 3 or 4 hours riding" I`ll never make it ! Now we all know you can ride at your own pace and more than likely still go alright. The minute you mention competition, people are not interested. Put a trail ride on all weekend, where they all want to ride ALL weekend, they ride a bit the first day, some lucky to ride the second, some do a lap, pack up and go home. We have done our best to keep cost to a low , so much so we are still getting over the loss of the last one we held. Nothing is concrete as what we may hold but want to do what the riders want, but as usual getting very little feedback apart from the avid few. We had unbelievable support and sponsorship last time as those that came saw, but we are not going to continue to do this [ quad trail ride challenge, thunder x, cross country events] unless people get out of there square and experience some fun and turn up.

If it wasn't so close to the Bunyip event, I'd happily attend.

Happy to hear all feedback, if you don`t tell us we don`t know. How long do you want, what sort of riding, changes can be made to last years event, we are thinking of simplifying things more perhaps.

we get out a bit ,don't worry.we drive about 1hr 50 min to pristine forest where the rangers are friendly and we may see 2-3 riders in a day.we do 120-180 km a day, every second weekend.
so, you can see my view. also, our only cost is fuel.
if it was closer, happy to support the event.

ps please don't ask where.

Do you live on the Gold Coast Gazman? If you are close to there, then it would be a 3 1/2 to 4 hr drive, not 6 1/2

A number of bike enduros were cancelled last year due to lack of numbers. So it is not just quad riders that don't want to or can't compete.

Yet on the other hand, go to a Dalby Moto trail ride and there is anywhere from 500 to 1000 riders turn up. Seems like everyone just wants to have a ride at their own pace.

So in my opinion a non competitive trail ride would be the way to go

yes ,I am on the gold coast. it took 6.5 hours to get to manar park, overnight,no traffic. Maybe there is a much quicker route to Ironpot that I don't know about! I think you are pretty close to manar?? I could be wrong!! that was 12 hours driving and about 10 hours riding, over 3 days.
Not trying to argue, just telling it.

We might be in for a look then. Also ,more feedback, not really interested in "games".Just want to trail ride as much as possible. One other thought,is the area as dusty as Manar Park?

I too are doing the bunyip ride. no finke for me as im doing the cape ride in june. seams the events allways clash. there are only so many long weekends in the year. the sport seams to be losing its momentuem. its easer to keep something going than it is to start from scratch

So my 2c after doing the event on both 2 and 4 wheels...

Combine a trail ride and a competitive ride over 2 days

Friday - travel
Saturday - 3-4 hour trail ride followed by 2 hour competitive 2 wheel then 2 hour competitive 4 wheel
Sunday - do it again (after feasting on the usual awesome ironpot tucker sat night)
Monday - travel

I would suggest cutting the loop down to around 15km which is more spectator friendly (would be great if you could also get rid of all the trees that I might run into too...)

This might get the trail riders to "go up" to the competitive event next year.

Would be great to have 2 wheel and 4 wheel riding together but the Neanderthals at MQ will I suspect have heart palpitations at the suggestion...

Perhaps cut it in half and not use the pipes, there was 20 k this side and 20 out the other side, so go to the pipes and out over the range. Flipper were are in the process of scrub pulling your trees, Gadget has bought that paddock and has 2x D7`s clearing it up a bit for you as we speak.

Count me in. The competition side of the sport is too weak so non competitive trail rides will hopefully gain more interest.
Only suggestion I could make is for the people attending. If Ironpot is putting on the event and also catering how about you buy your food from them, so as to inject your money into the people that organised the event. Unless of course it is un-catered, but I suspect the extra money made from drink and food sales helps.

One reason the loop was 40 klm was we thought that in the event of us getting the number of entries we thought we may, that size loop would spread the bikes/quads out so everyone had plenty of room.

From My experience longer loops are much better ... couple of reasons just say its 45min loop ..the lead riders will only pass the slower riders once if at all. For a guy like me who rides at the back, I'm not constantly looking over my shoulder. the Track stays in a good condition .. eg hard bits don't get flogged out. Long tracks riders spread out less dust. The non competitive Trail riders get a big ride .. Scoring wise much easier to manage . Makes it a little more interesting with fuel stops..

In my part of the world Kamfari is built for the spectators 12km loop ... The track is just smashed to pieces at the end nearly unrideable . then it rains and U wouldn't know we were there .

My 2 cents

Paul, your idea has been popular, what about Saturday a fun ,social, non competitive ride for both bikes and quads, say half a day each. Sunday competitive ride half a day each. That means you could still do both or all and the second day the track is well and truly marked in and if you have done the Saturday you know exactly where your going and what your in for. No need for any time wasting sight laps. Remember it is a long weekend.
