18 June 2013
2013 Yamaha Australian ATV MX Championship
Williams Event Management (WEM) is delighted to join Motorcycling Australia (MA) in announcing the venue for the 2013 Yamaha Australian ATV MX Championship.
The two day event will be held from 7 - 8 September at the Coolum Pines Motocross Track in Queensland the week after the final round of the Australian Motocross Championships.
This will be the third round for the Pro Quads and will included a full program of all other ATV Championship classes.
“We have been working on a venue for some time that would work for the ATV community. We were looking at Warwick, but due to track licensing we have confirmed the Coolum track. The Sunshine Coast Council has been a great supporter of the National Motocross Championship and their support of National Motocross made this a great option”, said MX promoter, Kevin Williams.
Entries will be online on July 1 at www.mxnationals.com.au |

Some of the Quad riders in Queensland were lucky enough to be allowed to participate at a practice day at Coolum yesterday.
The club have recently changed the track. Most of the straight position has changed, but they have changed how the corners join the track. And in my honest opinion the track is far better.
Instead of the right hand sweeping first corner, the first corner is nearly a complete 180 right then into a left hander. The other significant change is that there are no longer the 5 whoops after the big table top (the table top that was after the old first corner). But, they have put some new rollers where the two table tops were in the middle of the track. I have some GOPRO footage of the new track that I will try and get up tonight.
Those riding the MX Nats and ATV Nats are going to experience two different tracks. The first two practices we had yesterday where completely different to after the dirt bikes had rutted up the track. But all in all the track is going to be perfect for some great racing! |

For those wanting to know what Coolum's track is who haven't seen it at all, or since it had its layout changed, here is a quick video from a practice day they held last weekend:
Make sure you change it to HD (720)!!

They won't be.... that will be it as far as I am aware. All the jumps are the same with the exception that the extension has been removed from the table top (that use to be after the start straight), not that we would be able to clear it out of the new turn.
And where the whoops are, there use to be two small table tops.
There is also a stupid little step up that with the lip they had on it last weekend, it was physically impossible to clear! |

Dear Rider
Thanks for registering for the upcoming ATV Championship on September 7th & 8th, powered by Yamaha.
As we sit we only have 41 entries, if you know someone who is planning to ride please encourage them to lodge their entry.
If at the close of entry on August 19th we don't have 85 entries we will be forced to cancel the event.
We understand that the tough economic times are hard and we will make the decision on the 19th to minimise any cost to you.
from the promoter
Just out of curiosity is there anyone still to enter that hasn't yet? at the moment theres 48 entries _________________ www.waquadmx.com |

as per the email sent out at 5.07 pm to all entrants.
Dear ATV competitors and fans.
It is with great disappointment, that we announce the Yamaha Australian ATV Championship scheduled for September 7th and 8th at Coolum QLD must be cancelled.
Unfortunately the tight economic times have seen insufficient entries for the championship to go ahead.
The second round of the Yamaha Pro Quads at the Monster Energy MX Nationals will still run and this will conclude the Pro Quad Championship.
We apologize to those who have entered, no one has been charged for the event.
We will work with the Quad Commission and Motorcycling Australia with a view to stage a round next year.
We thank those who showed their support and wish you all well in your motorcycling activities.
Kind Regards
Kevin Williams
Cheers,
Kevin R Williams |

Ok. I am sure there is currently a lot of Australian ATV riders closely watching their news feed to see what is going on with the 2013 Australian ATV Nationals. Unfortunately late yesterday afternoon the new's came through that they had been cancelled.
However, I have been asked to get the word out that there is the possibility that an event will be going ahead, at Coolum, on that weekend. This is not definite, and there is still a lot that needs to happen in order for this to go ahead. Other than that, I have no details I can share. If everyone could please remain patient while a group try to resurrect this event it would be greatly appreciated. When I know more details, I will be sure to share them.
Those working to resurrect this event are hoping to be able to provide everyone with a definite decision on its fate by COB today. If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact me, although I probably wont be able to answer your question. |

Huge thanks to Kevin Williams and the WEM team for assisting Quads and assisting the QQRA with continuation of the event.
And the Quad mad members of QQRA for taking on the challenge.
WEM are donating trophies and doing their best to steer sponsorship at the event, and want nothing more than the success of quads in 2013 so they can work with us to make it bigger in 2014.
Also to the Board of MA who took out all the hurdles and made the last minute on the spot decision today to make it work.
Thanks to the usual die hard officials behind the scenes (you know who you are).
while Quads may not have huge numbers... The commitment shown by the people involved here clearly shows how tough Quad riders are.
Bring on the nationals. _________________ Can-Am X Team
