Not sure if its in the news down there ...Electricty will increase by 40% ...water by 30% sewage by 30% in NT on Jan the first.
Whats everybody paying per kw in other states ???
Just out of interest ....

shortly zero, we are installing a 5.5kW stand alone solar system. We will also be on tank water and septic so the utilities man can bite my shiny metal you know what _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!!

In melbourne we're paying around 29c(peak) per Kwh used, & getting paid 66c per Kwh fed back to grid....Can't complain about that. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

Just out of curiosity how much did it cost to instal the solar system and how long until it pays for itself.
My issue is, we are thinking about installing solar, but I can't be sure we will still be in this place long enough which means the next owner will benefit, not me. _________________ Cheers,

| No cost here - we recently built and spent our money on solar instead of grid connection. We also have tank water and envirocycle (newer version of septic). We're not physically connected to the outside world at all - phone and internet are 3G and the rest is stand alone. |

Muzz,
You need to do your sums carefully, the Fed & state govs have cut the rebates & feedback tarrif rates right back now, making it much harder to recoup cost over a reasonable time frame. Luckily for us the cutbacks are not retrospective, so our feedback tarrif deal stays in place until 2015, making it a viable option. Location will also play a role, melbourne is the least effective place to generate solar power, whilst I think WA is the best. A good quality 2-3kw system should cost around 4K give or take. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

That seems expensive for a grid connected system.
In a lot of areas you can't sell into the grid - it works on an "offset" type system only. If that is the case in your area you may want to look closely at the size of the system so you are not generating a lot more power than is needed to off set what you use. |

Yes 5 kW is quite a large system for grid connected. Even if you average out the amount of sun hours per day at say 5 ( NT is around 9 I have read) and allow for any inefficiencies in the system, you would still be generating around 17-20 kWh per day of energy. The national mean household electricity usage is somewhere between 15 and 20 kWh. _________________ I'm not suffering from insanity, I'm enjoying it!!! |

You elec bill should give you a average daily usage in Kw hours, that's what you want to generate (averaged) to be self sufficient.
The annual average solar generation in melbourne is 4.5 Kw hours per KW of panels installed. therefore if you have a 2k system annual average would be 9kwh per day averaged. Of course the average per kw figure for NT would be signifi\cantly higher (because you're closer to the equator & enjoy more sunlight). Ask the solar quoter what the average generation per Kw is for your area, he should know.
The Whirlpool forums are a great source of info for Solar, including threads on installers & systems all over Oz with both good & bad feedback. _________________ The term "Foolproof" seriously underestimates the ingenuity of Fools.

This guy said 24 per day from a 4.3 ...he also said our goverment has capped the saize a 4.3.... $13150 inc for a 4.3 19 panels
He also said our power will increase from 21 cents to 27 which is less than the meida is saying

I have no idea but we get 36c per watt ? and we have to pay 24c per watt and so far we have recieved 27$ per month for the last two bills, wich means we dont have to pay anything, will get them to credit our account, better than getting a bill in winter, I should add I use the welder most weekends. _________________ 2005 KFX700
