I have just joined the forum - I do not have a quad or buggy in the strict sense of the word but a small 4wd that on paper is close to something like the larger buggies such as Polaris Ranger, Rhino etc. This is my little machine - a Haflinger 700.
These were designed back in the 50s and built into the early 70s.
Its specs are similar to the Ranger/Rhino - weighs 650kg, is a 4wd with diff locks front and rear, independent suspension, standard 12" wheels, 2 cylinder 650cc aircooled engine, better ground clearance than standard buggies as it has portal axles. Has a top speed of about 80kph.
One major advantage over the buggies is that it is road legal in all states and is registrable so can be driven almost anywhere. Its disadvantage over buggies is the front overhang and a bit higher centre of gravity but is easily put back upright if it tips over.
One of the other disadvantages is that it has narrow 12" rims (3.5" wide) as standard and tyres are almost impossible to get. So one of the things I will be looking at through this forum is putting buggy wheels and tyres on it - unfortunately the 4 stud pattern is slightly smaller than those used in ATVs and buggies so I will be looking for wheels that can be modified to fit.
Not quite you will find on a forum like this but use is similar to a non racing buggy.
Here are some pics of other Haffies with buggy wheels and tyres on them.
Cheers

Cool ride, were they designed for military use or what other purposes ?
I'm sure you'll find some viable wheel /tyre options on here.

They have a top speed of about 80kph and were made for the Austrian and Swiss armies. Like mine, most were for the civilian market and most later models in Australia were actually made in Melbourne.
Thanks for the welcome.
