What are you all using to tow your toys to the playground?
Currently, I have a 105 series landcruiser and a box trailer with ramps which is fine for the one bike, but now the bug is beginning to bite the mrs and she is starting to ask me when she can have a bike of her own.
This will now come with new challenges, transporting 2 bikes with the current setup would not be possible, I could go a bigger trailer like a flatbed but prefer a trailer I can also use for tip runs.
So, any recommendations on tow setups? I was thinking of something like an F100 so I can slot a bike on the tray and one on the trailer. I need to keep in mind however that whatever is chosen also needs to be able to tow the trailer onto the beach to deply the bikes incase the little tackers come along with us.
Thoughts?
Maybe this could be a "post your tow setup" thread? |

| ive seen normal box trailers that have inserts that just slot in and you can load 2 quads sideways and when you want to use it as a trailer they just slot out |

HZ Tonner, all goes on the back because stupid sh1t p plate laws don't allow me to tow a trailer, or drive a v8. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

Heres my trailer, its an 8x5 with ramps bolted on top. The ramps are a pain to unbolt but it can be done if you need the trailer for other stuff
Can carry 3 quads with this setup

We used to do the same with our 8*5; side load etc up on top.
You mentioned little tackers so keep in mind you may have to go bigger soon anyway to take 2 1/2 quads then 3 quads, which we now do. Lucky i can put one in the work ute tray and two in the enclosed trrailer. _________________ 660R mine

Thanks all,
I think what codered has done to his trailer is a good idea, but perhaps there is an easier way to mount those tracks to make it easier to remove.
I guess I only do quaterly tip runs anyways... |

We use a 7 x 4 box trailer as our LWB 2 seater quad is a good fit in that with the tailgate right up.
Towed that OK with my wife's Subaru Forester, even though cleaning the car after a good days riding was a bit time consuming......
Recently picked up a AU Falcon 1 tonner and the quad travels well on the back of that, with good cabin and tray space, and we're not so fussy about the ute being immaculate, so it's more practical.
The plan to get a 2nd quad and use both the ute and trailer is taking shape again after a few not so good years. _________________ Remember. We elect politicians, but we have to deal with bureaucracy.

| your 105 landcruiser is more than capable, and legally allowed to tow 3500kgs, so save your cash, keep the cruiser and just increase the size of the trailer to accomodate extra quads. |

otherwise you could just keep chasing the green grass on the other side hoping to find a better option. _________________ Can-Am X Team

Yeah, what he said.^^^^^^
A better option is living where you can ride from your front door, or at least devote a week to experience just that.

Not in victoria, no trailers on reds other than supervised or for work. Greens are ok though. _________________ "If in doubt go flat out"

I have a very similar setup , The top on mine just sits there with four locating lugs that sit in side the trailer so it won't move and is held in place with tie-downs.
The two inside ramps are adjustable so I can carry just one quad in the middle.
All I have to do is take the tie-downs off and the frame just lifts off in about 30 seconds _________________ The older I get the faster I was !! |

I just use a Toyota aurion with a modified caravan chassis flat trailer. Stripped the old van and just left the chassis, reinforced it and put nice strong mesh type stuff on it. Holds 3 race width and the car tows it very well. Sits a bit low in the bum but that is caused by the aftermarket toward that came on the car.
Goes ok on dirt roads but anything other then basic dirt and that would be the end. _________________ 2006 Banshee

Another possible solution. I use to tow this with N/A 6cyl workmate cruiser. Plenty of room for expansion and will keep the wife happy on the weekends away to. _________________ 10 LTR 555 Dingo

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to look at modifying my current trailer to carry 2x quads up top.
For this weekend, I wanna go for a blat as the weather forecast is warm, clear skies and no rain for once, problem is, missus also wants to come, With the kids.
I was thinking of perhaps dropping the trailer off in the car park, chaining it up to the kipper logs and then letting the mrs drive the cruiser in without the worry of the trailer.
Anyone have concerns over the safety of the trailer for a few hrs chained up?? Will be in and out in daylight hours
Cheers |
