Ok this is how it goes. A new receptionist has started @ our work (about 20ish yrs old). This young lass was filling in a time sheet & asked me which number is used in 24hr time to represent 3pm (15:00). I was a little suprised she didn't know but I answered. From there a debate started in which our young receptionist went on to tell me that the time sequence @ the end of the day goes as followed 23:59 then a minute later 24:00 then a minute after that 00:01. With a puzzled look on my face I asked "Are you serious?", with a quick response of "Yes, I'm right!"...For the remainder of Friday afternoon we went back & forward @ each other then the wager was set in stone....x20 packets of Orange (yes you heard me!, Orange!) The young Lass said she would stay up then watch the midnight clock on her oven & microwave, I told her she didn't need to do that & the proof could be found by simply setting an alarm on her mob phone (which she dismissed). I tried to show her that my phone wouldn't acknowledge 24:00 but it would accept 00:00 (which again was the point I was trying to make) I tested this on a Nokia, Iphone, samsung galaxy & a few others but again had them dismissed on the basis that they weren't proper clocks & that they were phone (I said "your missing the point")....Anywayz one of the other office ladies decided to get in on the debate & googled wikileaks to inform me that 24:00 does get used however this is in other country's is extremely uncommon. I took this on board however it didn't make me change my tune as I was also informed that 24hr time in an international time format that is the most universally used. So what do you all think? who has to cough up the Tic Tac & accept defeat?
Another person said that fact that 24:00 is out there in the world but not used alot is a technicality based on the fact that we don't use that system so I'm now interested to get anyones 2cents worth _________________ 04 TRX 450r

To avoid confusion in my line of work.
2400hrs or 0000hrs is never used. You use either 2359hrs or 0001hrs |

well at the rate this discussion is getting dragged down, the chance of him actually showing her is quickly dissapearing and our chance to make a right and correct decsion purly based on her looks, all for the sake of this very valid question, sorry what was the question again ? _________________ 2005 KFX700

I'm in the navy and 24hr time is all we use
Many time have I been on watch at sea on the bridge of the ship staring at the clock which is set to Zulu time which is the time at Greenwich mean so at say 1001 our time this clock will read 0001
We use this time so that there no confusion between ships when we move to different time zones
I have never seen It display 2400 and we've tested this and checked it many times ... We do get very bored on long trips _________________ If in Doubt.. Flat out

JB I'd like to tell you to HTFU but no I wont, instead cry and sook like a little baby okay, you know what you need to do, now let her read this and be prepared to be taken to anti discrimination board for sexual harrassment and what ever other laws you might have broken. _________________ 2005 KFX700

...um...yeah so she's maybe not the sharpest tool in the shed (no need to "stay up and watch her microwave", maybe just reset the clock to 23:59 and watch it tick over), but this suggests she has obviously seen some clock somewhere do this. And just because it is not the modern accepted standard, doesn't mean it isn't used in some appliances. My guess is, she's seen it work that way once and assumed that's the way all 24hr clocks work.
I'm not voting, as you are technically right, but she is not wrong, therefore no winner.
And for my 2c, i very distinctly remember a slumber party when i was about 12, my friends and i watching videos at my family home, and i saw the 24hr clock on our brand new VCR tick over: 23:59, 24:00, 00:01. And i remember thinking to myself, "Hmm, that's odd. Must have been made in China" _________________ (PeteW's missus)
