Dont get me wrong , i am BRP's biggest fan , I have two ds650's in my garage and have had every yr model since they came out.
But just watch the 250 , it is a very heavy machine , with limited power.
Depending on what age its for I would consider other options as well eg , Yamaha raptor 350 or Suzuki /kawasaki 400 . Both lighter more powerful and easier to ride.
BRP make good product and they are fine pedigree ...the 250 is not one of their best machines. _________________ It's time too ride !!!!!!! |

I have one for about 8 months, but just wanted to compare notes with others as I find BRP has a lot of small things they should fix. In regard to power etc, drives very smooth, power for trail riding is good (I only use for rec use), watch the tyres, they are the baloon type and if not hard becomes very tippy bike (too much roll). You know the biggest problem with all the ATV shops is >>>> you can not test drive any of them, so by the time you get it, you better love it or hate it! Yet the money we spent you can by a motor vehicle with 5 years warranty and test drive for 24hrs to make sure you get the right car but quads......No Way they let you test drive them!! I think we are all nuts |

| I believe the DS250 is made in Asia on licence to BRP. Most of the rest of the product range is made back in Canada. Having been associated with BRP for a number of years, you can bet they will go out of their way to improve any issues in the DS250. On the test/ride demo thing, its getting tougher and much more expensive to supply demos for people to try out, insurances are getting crazy, probably due to the amount of litigation going on and the number of trashed demos we get, and we simply dont have a big enough sport ATV market yet to justify many dealers to carrying demos units for customers to try out. Its a little easier on the higher volume selling models though. |

Just join your local quad club. I know QuadridersSA down here in South Australia has almost all models amongst it's members, and we are always more than happy for other members to give our quads a go if they are thinking about buying one. I would like to think your local clubs members would be the same.

You are right, it is Taiwan, they do not advertise this But BRP do advertise and tell you that the DS250 has a Rotax motor ....This is incorrect! I had to find out the hard way, this unit is made in Taiwan, and the motor is also made in Taiwan by a company called Sym. I was told it is a good Canadian made quad with a rotax motor and if in fact you pick up the 2007 broshure you will see clearly that they state is has a rotax motor - I would attach the page for you but don't know how to do attchement here (this is false advertising and is against and they are in breach of the "trade pactice act" - (this issue is being looked at right now) BRP might have a good reputation for marketing but they also have to tell the truth! I have also other issues with BRP but communication is poor and very hard to find the right person to handle these issues.
In regard to test driving in Quad clubs, this is all good for old models but when no one has that quad then this will not work either - ie has anyone got a Renegade to test drive in Melbourne? I like to have a go? |

| re; demo Renagade. We've just got a new one in the showroom, took months and months just to get it and it sure gets lots of lookers. I'll check with BRP rep. see if anyone has a demo. In defence of the BRP guys here in OZ, theyre doing a tuff job trying to compete with the 4 big Jap distributors with nowhere near the resources and nowhere near the profile as they have in the northern American markets. Personally, I find them pretty good to deal with, any urgent back ordered parts, BRP can get them from Canada much faster than the big brands can get theirs from Japan! They have alot of hard work ahead of them here in Oz, and they are well aware of it. I reckon if they had the same resources as the 4 big Jap brands, you would really see some fireworks!! [ we retail 2 Jap brands as well as Can-Am ] |

Hi Wanday - I would like to agree with you on the supply of parts side of things but I can not do this either. I'll explain, the DS250 does not have a oil filter (it has a wire strainer, what a crap) when I bought the DS250 I asked the dealer to throw in some oil filter as "He said they have paper oil filters" when I took delivery he gave me 2 wire oil strainers! I said what do I need these for? ah, sorry this motor does not have any paper filters (He told me and thought it was a Rotax Motor and didn't even know it was a Taiwan Motor)
Anyhow, back to the parts, I tried to open the oil stainer plug which was so tight I stripped the nut and had a hell of a time to get the plug out. Anyhow, I ordered a new plug and guess what, it took 6 weeks to get thie plug and in the end I had to get the state manager involved to get the part flown in by DHL as I was sick of the internal mistakes (wrong part numbers) and my Quad was sitting there, unable to use and my "Whole 6 Months Warranty" (whoopy doo, 6 months!! In the USA they get 3 years and a car get 5 years warranty) was ticking away - anyhow the state manager did get it fixed and he did a good job doing that.
So as you can see I haven't had any good luck yet with this BRP product. I used to have a Seadoo Jetski for 6 years and I can tell you I NEVER had any problem and NEVER replaced one parts! This is one of the reasons I bought the BRP brand - So I believe the problem is in the ATV Section that is too new and they have no experience in this industry (If I can say that!)
But when I am ready to buy and trade in this Quad I will come and see you???? |
