(i know there are similar threads in here but they are all quite out-of-date now)
So in the interest of research...

I got to talking to a lot of different people at the QRCV's recent AGM/xmas breakup, about their thoughts on why membership numbers have been dropping over the past 5 years or so. Most people blame the economy, but i think there has to be a lot more to it than that.

If you are not a member of the QRCV, why not?
What events could the club offer that would entice you to join?
What would need to change?

Well I am an newbe to quad bikes but perhaps if you explained what QRCV was and what beinfit there was in being a member, seems to me basic logic if there are no benifits in being a member why would anyone join ?
In answer to the question why am i not a member ?
Because I have no idea what it is or why it would be any benifit to me .

hope this feedback helps with your club marketing .

"Quad riders club of Vic."
www.qrcv.com.au

As far as trailriders go, whilst recreational rego is not available, there is really no incentive to join the club. Trailriding in essence is an informal passtime but run under the auspices of MV it becomes a very formal & structured event with the associated limitations & costs & consequently less desirable. Perhaps the clandestine manner of riding illegally also appeals to some. Having said all that I would not like to see the club fail & I will be looking to renew membership B4 Sandfest, which in my view is worth the cost of membership alone.

Just my 2c.

OK well there is something that would be really worth joining for, if the club had good membership and perhaps offered some sponsorship to businesses that would give discounts to members, they could as a club lobby for the introduction of some form of legal registration for recreational quad bike riding in Victoria and perhaps even have some dedicated places for legal recreational riding.

If enough people want registration for their quad bikes then why not ? Do something to make it happen !, we live in a democracy so i am told, would there be that many people against us having registration for quad bikes ? surely cant be any worse than any other recreational bike riding or motor vehicle and governments usually like new ways to make money charging us for registration would have to be better revenue than a few fines they might get other wise .

I haven't got as far as being able to ride my quad bikes yet so that problem has not come up, but as soon as i finish rebuilding them the backyard is going to be way too small Smile

oh i have 2 yamaha 350 big bears 4x4 , I like the idea of the 4 wheel drive and low gears, i might post some pictures of the rebuild in another thread.

cheers

I 2nd that. I was with the club for 2yrs, my own experience was if you werent a racer or enduro racer the club offered very little to your run of the mill weekend warrior trail rider (rec reg being the biggest problem). Its pretty hard to organise trail rides where there is no risk of getting in trouble for simply enjoying your sport. The best thing i got out of the club was the contacts I met & from there established some great friendships that continue to this day.

Thanks to everyone who has joined in this discussion (both in the thread, and the many lengthy PM's). It has been a great help to my own personal reasearch in this and many of the points raised have been discussed at the last meeting (i didn't name any names) Wink
So thank you!

Just thought i'd answer some questions, just quickly, although the very fact that these questions were raised at all has been a real eye opener as to how the club has been seen to date Wink So thanks once again!

Great question! Short answer: we are a club that runs quad racing (mostly motocross) events for those who wish to race. Long answer, check out our website to learn the full story www.qrcv.com.au
If you haven't heard of us before, then we clearly need to address the lack of publicity! Thanks heaps. It has been raised at the meeting Smile

As above, thanks for your input. It's been an eye opener to learn so many don't even know about the club! We will definitely be working on more marketing!

You are totally right. And personally, i can't really see the trail riding contingent ever being resurected. Too hard and largely redundant. However, more campaways could be something we should look into...

This is seen as a dead-end issue to the club. We'd all love to see rec-reg happen, and over the past 12 years many passionate people have fought via every possible avenue to see it a reality. But it just keeps getting ignored by the authorities. You would think VicRoads would be happy to take our money but apparently its just all too hard.

Well thats good to know lol. I know there are a few keen to see more enduros this year. Are you planning on doing the Flowerdale Enduro on March 18th? I haven't received your entry yet Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Good to see the club has taken feedback onboard (literally) & is now posting on here as a member, good way to increase your visability.
I might even re-assess the membership factor myself.

That is a topic that has not come up at our meetings as yet. I know it is definitely a growing market, so i guess more will request it in the future. If there was enough interest, then yeah why not? As long as there are enough entries at any one event, (and the machines meet the guidelines) we can run whatever classes we want. If we wanted to run a class just for TRX owners, we could do that, as long as we had the numbers. Officially, 6 competitors are required to constitute a class.

Now having said that, if you are genuinely interested in racing your UTV, then don't just hang back waiting for it to happen. Because it won't happen unless you support it. Do you know any others who would be interested racing theirs? A class could possibly be run at the next enduro, IF we had 6 UTV owners wanting to race and willing to join the club and pay the entry fee.
I'd suggest: find enough people to race a UTV class, all pre-enter the next enduro, and elect to pay on the day. That way, if not enough UTV entries are recieved by the entry closing date, the class will be dropped from the event and those pre-entered can be advised of the cancellation. Nothing lost, no wasted trip, etc. Of course if there are enough pre-entered, you'll all rock up, pay at sign-in, and have an awesome day of riding on a unique trail with heaps of others.

Thanks. We are all working hard to see our club become everything the members want it to be.
And since you mentioned the club's new OZATV presence, i'd like to just clarify to everyone here and now that what i say here in this thread, i say so as a concerned club member, but i cannot speak on behalf of the club. All comments and posts officially from the club are posted by "Quad Riders Club Victoria" login.
