Hi guys, I'm Dave from Perth and I'm new here to the forum. After a 7 year absence from "quading" I have decided to get back into the quad scene. I previously had a Bombardier DS 650 for fun and a Raptor 660 for enduro racing. The thing is I have no clue as to what happend on the ATV scene in the last couple of years. I dont know what to buy.....I have no idea of what todays riders consider as the best quad/s.

I am about 6ft (183cm) and 110 kg so I guess big bore is the way to go.
I see there are a Yamaha Raptor 700 and a Honda TRX 700 XX. Both these bikes are new to me. Maybe there are more new quads I dont know about that I should consider. Please advise me.

I live near Dunes so sand riding will be regular, and I will also be looking at some enduro type racing....Help me make the right choice as to what to buy. What do you guys recommend?(pointless asking the sales guys in the bike shop as they will all back their own product)

it really does come down to what sort of riding you will do most of. sand riding i assume your talking about going to lanno. each to their own but solid rear axle bikes are usually the go. i think suzuki has some great prices on ltr450's at the moment.

if you plan on doing more enduro type events you can't go past an irs bike. the two out at the moment are the polaris outlaw 525irs and the honda trx700xx. havent ridden the trx myself but the outlaw is a great bike with the irs giving a nice ride over some of the nastier bumps that solid axle bikes dont like as much plus you get a higher ground clearance which is handy in rutted bush.

Most of my riding will be between Jindalee and Janchep, in my back yard so to speak. But Lanno is also on the cards for sure. I've reggisterd on atwa, but are waiting for approval from the moderators. I wonder how the TRX 700 XX compares to the other bikes on the tracks at woodridge?

to be honest most bikes out on the market are pretty similar in terms of what they can do. it all comes down to how good/brave the monkey on the back of it is plus how much money you are willing to sink into it to get that extra couple of % out of the bike. the drawback with irs bikes though is that they are a little heavier than solid axle bikes and they slide differently around corners (they drop on the outside corner whereas solid axle bikes generally stay flatter). ive seen many people roll em thinking that they handle like a solid axle bike and then the wheel digs in and it goes over. but once you know how they handle its all good and they are much more fun in the rough stuff.

With the IRS I recon the 700XX steer /slide more like a 4X4 Polaris than a 2X4 Raptor.
